    networking between two computers

    Hi

    I have installed a PCI Ethernet card on my Desktop PC and a USB Ethernet adapter on Laptop PC.

    When i search for networks from PC, it finds one external network but no other internal network. When i do the search from Laptop, it does not find any network at all ..... what could be the reason?

    I am wanting to network between my Laptop and Desktop. Are there any special settings needed for USB ethernet? Please advise how to make connection between the two wireless ethernet devices. Neither of these network devices are able detecting each other ??

      When trying to directly connect two PC you will require a crossover ethernet cable. In addition with the absence of any sort of DHCP server or DHCP enabled router, you will have to manually setup the computers TCP/IP settings for the adapters that you have installed.

          DonRayner,

          I am trying wireless networking, which means i am using wireless LAN (Ethernet) cards instead. So i do not need any cable.

          Only problem i am having is with the USB wireless ethernet card which is not detecting any network whereas the PCI ethernet card is detecting one network.

              I've never tried connecting two computers with a wireless connection without at least having a wireless router acting as the intermediary. No reason why you shouldn't be able to do it, I just haven't. Only suggestion that I have for you is, if the laptop is Vista it's possible that the network discovery and sharing is turned off.
