In the past I've used the Suse Linux brand, but I haven't dealt with Linux in about 4 years and lost track of what is what in the Linux world lately. I was wondering which brand of Linux will offer me the best features for being able to run a linux machine like I would my windows machine that way I can use Linux more.

Currently I'm in college for Computer Engineering/Computer Science and I want to do most of my programming and projects on the computer. At the same time I want to be able to use my projects on Windows Machine. I know they are different machines, but I know I can make a windows backing (platform) to run my windows application on linux.
I like Linux because of how I can control security and make programs I want.Comment

If you are looking for security i would never suggest ubuntu. any body can get root access in ubuntu once they logon to recovery mode. And by default you would never get root account. Anything is possible using Sudo.Originally posted by Newbie19Currently I'm in college for Computer Engineering/Computer Science and I want to do most of my programming and projects on the computer.
