My dissertation paper is about the relevance of branded clothes in consumers and in society as a ... more My dissertation paper is about the relevance of branded clothes in consumers and in society as a whole.What these branded clothes are used to present, their relevance in status consumption, consumerism, the contrast in attitude towards fake garments by people of different classes and how they are interpreted and used in different ways to suit different needs, the contrast in choices of the consumers and thus the line of clothing in the branded clothing outlets in the metropolitan cities and the suburban ones. With capitalism, modernization and globalization, brands became an integral part of a man's day to day life. Class did not always come in an inherited way. The advent of brands made it possible for you to buy your class in the social ladder and hence a race for social consumption started and brands started exploiting this fact to its favour and made it sure that strategies were followed which kept the profit maximization curve always steeply upward. I also aim to show the difference in mentality of the consumers going to the malls to buy clothes and the ones going to the footpath markets. There is a hierarchy of clothing brand outlets in the malls and how the same hierarchy gets moulded into a human form in society through its consumers, and my study aims on delving deeper into the idea.

The following paper revolves around the modern Indian society and analysing some everyday situati... more The following paper revolves around the modern Indian society and analysing some everyday situations through which gender inequality can be highlighted and the need for liberal feminism can be portrayed. Although this is a very vast situation which has multitudes of mundane happenings to point out the gender biasness of the society, I have tried to analyse few of them which are seen yet goes unnoticed, because the suppression of women in the society is justified or accepted as fate by the oppressed as well, thus continuing the cycle of gender inequity. The paper will also analyse how the society installs ‘virtues’ for women which are actually ‘repressing’ them. Because these situations are mundane, they are getting ingrained in the subconscious of the people, they start believing unconsciously on what they see every single day. By the end of this paper, we will also see how the ‘eternal feminine’ is desperately tried to be retained by the patriarchal structure so that the ‘masculine’ continues to have a higher stand and the final say. I hope every common human being can relate to the paper as it is based on the visual analysis of the mundane.
