The purpose of this article is to present a way of ecodesign implementation within a company as w... more The purpose of this article is to present a way of ecodesign implementation within a company as well as to explore needs and possibilities concerning support of ecodesign activities. Research methodology was based on literature review and case study aiming at verification of the conceptual model of eco-innovative product design and development. Procedural stages critical for integration of environmental aspects into product design and development in selected company have been identified, and assumptions of a Technical-Organisational-Personal approach-based algorithm for selection of tools supporting ecodesign were proposed. The research has cognitive meaning for seeking further solutions in optimisation and supporting the environmental aspects implementation in the design process. The presented example may provide inspiration both for further studies and for undertaking practical activities by managers and design teams. Taking into account the need of special support for companies in the SMEs sector in implementation of ecodesign, the case study performed in the company belonging to this group may also contribute to development of good practices in this field.

The Corporate Carbon Footprint is becoming increasingly popular as a business-related indicator i... more The Corporate Carbon Footprint is becoming increasingly popular as a business-related indicator in the dynamically developing and competitive pharmaceutical sector. Its usefulness, however, will depend on solving a number of methodological, interpretational and organizational problems. The aim of this paper is to present selected aspects of the corporate carbon footprint calculation in a pharmaceutical organization in view of the specificity of the pharmaceutical supply chain. The CCF calculation issues are considered in relation to the index application in the activity of the pharmaceutical sector companies. The following areas of the CCF applications are defined: (1) identification of areas of activity characterized by the potential for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions; (2) opportunity to use results of the analysis of the volume of greenhouse gas emissions in eco-design of products and services; (3) use of the carbon footprint quantity in communication between interested parties.

Ecodesign of blades used in steam turbines is the example of integrating environmental aspects in... more Ecodesign of blades used in steam turbines is the example of integrating environmental aspects into the process of designing and development of a product during life cycle. The life cycle of blades begins with extraction of raw materials and manufacturing steel products used as material charge in the process of their production. Among the activities that can decrease environmental impact of blades during life cycle is considering the environmental profile of used steel. The aim of the article is identification of environmental impacts connected with alternative ecodesign variants created during modeling of using different steel products to manufacturing the blades and also determining potential and needs connected with elaborating environmental profile of blades life cycle. Environmental aspects concerning using different steel products are considered in relation to various forms of material and types of steel. The design variants are analyzed basing on LCI data concerning steel, taking ecodesign approaches and principles into account. The usability of specific LCI databases and LCIA methods was also considered. The analyzed problem can lead to determine possibilities of integrating environmental aspects concerning steel into design of blades, also in context of life cycle management. Presented considerations can be helpful in improving logistic chains and in making decisions connected with elaboration and implementation of eco-innovations.
