The essay regards the methodological aspects of digital representation and computer graphic specifications in accordance with guidelines for design tools.
B) Processes and strategies for the survey, documentation and design of historical sites;
C) The role of technologies in assessing the impact of contemporary architecture on an existing context that represents outstanding universal value;
D) Possible standards and regulations to achieve quality trough contemporary architecture;
E) The use of visual technologies to document and represent the impact of future interventions;
F) The transformation of urban communities by the promotion of historic urban environments;
G) Strategies to enhance local identity, appropriating or rejecting contemporary architecture and building a modern identity.
Papers by Giuseppe Amoruso
urban landscape (HUL) is the urban area understood as the result of a historic layering of cultural and
natural values and attributes, extending the “historic center” concept to include the broader urban context
and its geographical setting. Representation of historical environments, documenting their typological
components as a pattern book (landscape, architecture, textures, materials, and color), is devised to
encourage a strategy of valorization. Explanation of landscapes’ values through its benchmarking, consists
of several mapping actions and adoption of tools: 3D modelling, environmental mapping, places
representation. The chapter presents a strategic process based on local character assessment through a
place-visualizing toolkit from documentation and color representation to design coding: visualization
of landscape’ values and multimedia survey pipelines implementing processes, methods and tools for
the narration of tangible values and intangible assets.
urban complexity. Its image needs to be maintained through
guidelines for the urban survey and architectural documentation.
A code-based representation for the traditional city and its
conservation areas (concerning the urban morphology and the
related typological issues) introduces a necessary innovation
about the state of the art improving quality in the forthcoming
plans for architectural composition, façade technology and colour palette. An urban code allows to manage with great efficiency the whole interventions. It is necessary to define a scientific process, a pipeline from survey (and representation) to the rehabilitation master plan, that can be implemented through an information anc communication technology.

Design for cultural heritage includes theories, methodologies, and design techniques which encompasses the system of cultural heritage in its broadest sense addressing the cognitive, social and symbolic meaning for a territory and a community. Traditionally the representation disciplines are able to converse
with the multiple fields of industrial design expertise proposing “interpretative models” for the analysis and representation
of historical, cultural, aesthetic and environmental significance of cultural heritage and of its tangible and intangible issues. Strategy of valorization, such as explanation of the value of heritage, consists of the mapping of these values: 3D modeling, representation and multimedia. Representation become a mean for structured knowledge and flexible but also to configure the forms of innovation through the creative potential of Industrial
Design.
Participants will be immersed in the Italian built environment and exposed to the art of making places, traditional architecture and cultural heritage.
Participants will be involved in the making of the traditional Mediterranean city according to local building and planning traditions, thereby sharpening cultural identity and a 'sense-of-place.' This will be accomplished through a drawing and design studio, tutored by master architects and academics.
The purpose of the Charrette is to produce an urban planning and schematic architectural design based on a detailed survey of the rural settlements named Contradas.
The study area is characterized by the trulli building typology, the Unesco-listed trulli are limestone dwellings employing drywall construction, a prehistoric building technique still in use in this part of Italy.
The course objectives are:
• to learn about environmental practices that belong to the foundation of the Mediterranean culture;
• to be able to perform architectural and urban design technical sketching from observation to more formal layouts;
• to be involved into the process of making places, from site analysis and survey to urban design and architectural coding;
• to be exposed to heritage regeneration, building skills issues, traditional practices of interior design, art and craft and vernacular patterns.
The program is partnered by INTBAU – The International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism – is a worldwide organization dedicated to the support of traditional building, the maintenance of local character and the creation of better places to live.
Established in 2001, and patroned by HRH The Prince of Wales, INTBAU is an active network of individuals and institutions who design, maintain, make, study or enjoy traditional building, architecture and places.
INTBAU’s growing membership consists of approximately 5,000 people from more than 100 countries. By education and training in traditional architecture, urbanism and the building crafts, we encourage people to maintain and restore traditional buildings, and in particular to create new buildings and places that contribute to traditional environments and improve the quality of life in cities, towns and villages around the world.
The purpose of the programme is to become familiar with Italy's diverse art, design, history, traditions and places. Rome, the Eternal City, is an ideal place to study and to live in and where enjoy the Italian culture and way of life.
Participants will be immersed in the historical environment and they be exposed to the art of making places, traditional architecture and cultural heritage of diverse ages.
Course objectives are also:
o to develop analytical skills and to be able to perform technical sketching from field observation to more formal layouts;
o to visit and get a comprehensive knowledge archaeological sites, architectural places and masterpieces from Antiquity to Baroque: Bramante, Caravaggio, Michelangelo, Bernini, Borromini, Rafael, and others;
o to be exposed to architectural heritage, traditional architecture and urban design.
