The goal of port management is to let ports evolve from logistic distribution centres into transport solution providers. Such evolution can be achieved through Business Process Reengineering (BPR), often jointly to the implementation of Information Technology (IT) solutions. Such approach does not always give the expected results. It is thus very important to use the most suitable tools. In this paper we propose an example of the path followed to study the processes related to four European ports (Taranto, Kavala, Thessaloniki, Igoumenitsa) and show the methodology for the first steps of BPR (asis process representation and analysis). In our research we studied 10 processes and applied our methodology for their representation and analysis. As an example, focusing on one process, we show how to implement such methodology and how to use a simulation software for the as-is process analysis.

It regards the loss of muscle mass and strength associated with the aging of the human body. A prevention activity is very important to face this disease and an efficient monitoring could certainly contribute to improve the life quality not only to patients but also to families. Furthermore, it could be very useful as support for the local and national social-health system. The emerging hardware and software technologies enabling the Internet of Things offer a great opportunity in the design and implementation of smart systems capable of monitoring sarcopenic patients even at home. This work is part of an innovation project called SIMMS. In addition to the description of the proposed system architecture, first and partial results, obtained carrying out a functional validation of the overall system, have been reported and discussed.

More specifically, we analyze how SME suppliers perceive and respond to supply chain pressure and then investigate if such pressure is effective. The analysis is carried out through four case studies within SMEs in the UK. These cases are deliberately chosen to illustrate to students and CSR practitioners the potential range of different CSR viewpoints in relation to CSR and supply chain management.

However, not every firm is in a position to force the implementation of CSR in its supply chains as some, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), lack the necessary power. Chain directors can implement it acting as a principal, whereas the other chain members can act as agents.
