Overview

Referrer Breakdown Analytics provides detailed analysis of where your traffic comes from. See which websites, social platforms, and search engines send visitors to your site, along with deep metrics per referrer. This is a Pro feature.

Feature Details

Category Traffic Sources
Type Referrer Analysis
Plan Pro
Configurable Settings Yes (date range filtering)

Prerequisites

  • Page Visit Counter Analytics Pro must be installed and activated.
  • A valid Pro license key must be configured.

How to Access

  1. Go to your WordPress admin dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Analytics > Referrer Breakdown from the left sidebar menu.
  3. View referrer domains with detailed metrics and drill-down data.

How It Works

The plugin captures the referrer URL from each visitor’s session. The Referrer Breakdown report groups sessions by referring domain and provides deep metrics for each source including sessions, pageviews, pages per session, top countries, top devices, top browsers, OS breakdown, and the specific URL paths visitors came from.

You can filter by date range, sort by different metrics, and paginate through all referrer sources. This gives you a complete picture of where your traffic originates and how visitors from each source behave on your site.

Benefits

  • Know exactly which websites send you the most traffic.
  • Compare visitor quality across referrer sources (pages per session, device mix).
  • Identify high-value traffic sources worth nurturing.
  • See geographic and device breakdown per referrer for targeting insights.
  • Track which specific paths visitors used from each referrer domain.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a referrer?

A referrer is the URL of the page that linked to your site. This includes search engines (Google, Bing), social media (Twitter, Facebook), other websites, and direct traffic (no referrer).

Can I see which search engines send the most traffic?

Yes. Search engines like Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo appear as individual referrer domains with full session and pageview metrics.

How detailed is the referrer data?

Very detailed. For each referrer domain, you can see sessions, pageviews, pages per session, top countries, devices, browsers, operating systems, and the specific URL paths visitors followed from that source.
