Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to common questions about PlanWiseWP.
Getting started & Admin setup
Installation, activation, and initial configuration.
01. How do I install the Free version?
You can install the free version of PlanWiseWP directly from the WordPress plugin repository. Go to Plugins > Add New in your WordPress admin, search for PlanWiseWP, and click Install Now, then Activate.
02. How do I install the PRO version?
After purchasing the PRO version via Freemius, you will receive a download link for the planwisewp-pro.zip file and a license key. Upload this zip file via Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin in your WordPress admin. Activate the plugin and then enter your license key when prompted to enable all PRO features and receive updates.
03. How does the Free to PRO upgrade work?
You can upgrade easily from within the free plugin’s admin dashboard using the Pricing or Upgrade tabs (powered by Freemius). After purchase, Freemius will automatically handle the download and activation of the PRO version and the deactivation of the free version. Your settings will be preserved.
04. How do I display the editor on my site?
Simply insert the shortcode planwisewp into the content of any WordPress page or post where you want the editor to appear. The plugin will automatically handle the rest, including checking user login status and limits.
05. What are the essential initial settings (Admin)?
Navigate to PlanWiseWP > Settings. Key settings include: **Default User Limit** (how many plans free users can export), **Limit Period** (monthly, weekly, daily), **Unit System** (Metric or Imperial), **Free version default sizes** for doors/windows, customizing the **Preset Room List**, and **Button Colors**. PRO users should also configure their **Custom Watermark URL** and **Note Marker Color** here.
06. How do I customize the texts (Admin)?
In PlanWiseWP > Settings, you can customize the main **Frontend Page Title (H1)**, the **Tooltip Trigger Text**, and the full HTML content of the **Tooltip** itself. PRO users gain additional control to edit the **Logged-Out User Message** and the **Limit Reached Messages** (both Individual and Company limits), allowing for full branding and custom instructions (supports HTML and shortcodes).
PRO features, licensing & B2B
Understanding PRO benefits, terms, and business use cases.
01. What are the main benefits of PRO?
PRO unlocks powerful business features: **User Save & Load** (lead generation), **Custom Watermark** (branding), **Advanced Calculations** (Net Wall Area, Paint vs Tile, Heating Load for automated quoting), **CSV/TXT Export** (data integration), **Company Management** (B2B features, monetization), **Admin Access to User Plans** (lead follow-up), **On-Canvas Dimensions**, **Custom-Sized Openings**, **No Export Limits**, and **No Plugin Branding**.
02. What is the licensing for the Free version?
The free version of PlanWiseWP available on WordPress.org is licensed under the GPL v2 or later. This means you are free to use, modify, and redistribute it under the terms of the GPL.
03. What is the licensing for the PRO version?
The PRO version uses a split license. The PHP code interacting directly with WordPress remains GPL compatible. However, the core **editor functionality** and potentially other assets are under a **commercial license**, granted to you upon purchase via Freemius. This commercial license restricts redistribution and usage based on your purchased plan (e.g., number of sites).
04. Can I use the PRO version on multiple sites?
Yes, we offer different license tiers through Freemius (e.g., single site, multiple sites, agency). Please check our Pricing page for details on how many sites each license allows you to activate the PRO version on.
05. How do I set up my Custom Watermark (PRO)?
In PlanWiseWP > Settings, find the ‘Custom watermark URL (PRO)’ field. You can either paste the URL of an image already uploaded to your Media Library, or use the ‘Upload/Select Image’ button to choose or upload a logo. This image will then be applied to all PNG exports. Leave empty for no watermark.
06. How does Company Management work (PRO)?
The ‘Companies & Users’ tab (PRO only) in the PlanWiseWP admin allows you, the site owner, to create ‘Company’ entities. You can then assign specific WordPress users to these companies and set a collective periodic project limit for the entire company, overriding individual limits. This is ideal for managing B2B clients, teams, or creating different access tiers on your site.
07. How can I access saved user plans (PRO)?
In the ‘Project Log’ tab within the PlanWiseWP admin, PRO users will see options next to each log entry to ‘View Details’ (shows the raw JSON data of the saved plan) and ‘Download (.json)’ (downloads the plan data). This allows you to analyze user designs or prepare quotes proactively.
Using the editor & features
Tips for drawing, understanding calculations, and exports.
01. How do I select, move, rotate, or delete elements?
**Select:** Left-click on a room or element (marker, pillar). On touch screens, tap the element. **Move:** Click and hold the left mouse button (or touch and drag) to move the selected element. **Edit Panel:** Right-click on a selected element (or long-press after tapping on touch screens) to open the floating Edit Panel. **Rotate:** Use the rotate button (↔️ icon) in the Edit Panel to swap the width and length of the selected room or pillar. **Delete:** Use the delete button (🗑️ icon) in the Edit Panel to remove the selected element.
02. How do I align rooms (magnetic snapping)?
Rooms and pillar elements automatically snap to each other magnetically when you drag them close. They will snap edge-to-edge, corner-to-corner, or center-aligned. The editor also snaps based on the Wall Thickness setting to help create shared walls easily.
03. What Wall Thickness should I enter?
Enter the thickness of the *thinnest common internal wall* in your plan (e.g., 10 cm or 4 inches). This value is primarily used by the magnetic snapping logic to correctly align rooms with a standard wall gap between them. Use the Pillar/Filler tool for thicker walls.
04. How close should rooms be for a shared wall?
Ideally, rooms should have a gap between them ranging from almost zero up to **twice (2x) the specified Wall Thickness** for accurate shared wall calculations (PRO). The magnetic snapping helps align them initially to the exact Wall Thickness. After they snap, you can fine-tune the distance within this range (0 to 2x). The PRO version visually indicates the current shared wall gap with guide lines. Avoid overlapping rooms, as this will lead to incorrect calculations.
05. How do shared walls and openings work (PRO)?
PRO intelligently detects shared walls within the allowed distance range (0 to 2x Wall Thickness). Openings (doors, windows, custom openings) placed on these shared walls are correctly subtracted from the Net Wall Surface calculation of *both* adjacent rooms, ensuring accurate estimates.
06. How do I place doors, windows, or openings?
First, enter the desired dimensions (Width, Height, and Sill Height for windows – PRO allows custom sizes). Then, click the corresponding ‘+’ button (Door, Window, or Opening). Your cursor will change to a crosshair. Finally, click on the desired wall segment on the canvas where you want to place the opening.
07. How do I set Door/Window Sizes?
In the Free version, door and window sizes are fixed based on the values set in the Admin Settings. In the PRO version, you can enter any custom Width and Height directly in the input fields before clicking the ‘+’ button to add the door or window.
08. How do I set the Window Sill Height (Parapet)?
In the PRO version, when adding a window, input the Sill Height (distance from floor to window bottom) in the designated field. This is used for detailed calculations but doesn’t change the 2D plan visually.
09. What are the On-Canvas Dimensions (PRO)?
The PRO version automatically displays key dimensions directly on the drawing canvas itself, including room width/length, wall thickness indications, and opening sizes. This makes the exported plan much easier to read and more professional.
10. How do I use Markers (Note Markers)?
Click the ‘!’ button (Note Marker) in the controls. Your cursor will change. Click anywhere on the canvas or within a room to place a marker. These are visual cues only and do not affect calculations. PRO users can customize the marker color in the Admin Settings.
11. Can I change room colors?
Currently, the editor automatically assigns colors to rooms on the canvas and in the report for visual differentiation, but users can customize these in the PRO version within the editor.
12. What export options are available?
The Free version allows exporting the visual plan as a PNG image (with watermark). The PRO version removes the watermark, allows adding your own custom watermark, and adds options to export the detailed Measurement Report as a TXT file or a CSV file (for spreadsheet import).
13. Save & Load
(PRO) You can save the current state of your drawing at any time, then restore it and continue drawing. Saving is done in .json format.
Support & troubleshooting
Help with issues and how to get support.
01. The editor is not loading or working?
Ensure the planwisewp shortcode is correctly placed. Check browser console (F12) for errors. Test for plugin/theme conflicts by temporarily deactivating others. Clear browser and WordPress cache.
02. Calculations seem incorrect?
Double-check Ceiling Height and Wall Thickness settings. Ensure rooms don’t overlap. For PRO accuracy, ensure shared walls are aligned (ideally within 0 to 2x Wall Thickness). Calculations use internal room dimensions.
03. How do I uninstall the plugin completely?
Deactivating and deleting via the Plugins page removes files. Our uninstall routine (via Freemius) also attempts to remove database tables (planwisewp_projects) and options. Always back up your database first.
04. How can I get support?
For the Free version, please use the official support forum on WordPress.org. For PRO users with an active license, please log in to your account on our website or use the contact information provided upon purchase for priority support.
