Per request from someone on my last entry, I now shall tell you all the tale of when I was attacked by a baboon. Who was wearing overalls and a diaper. But still vicious none the less. The little wagon he was riding in around fooled me at first, but he was a mean little beast.
The story probably isn't as interesting as it sounds. Really, it isn't.
So on to the story anyways. I will save you the boring details of the back story. They have nothing to do with the reason I was attacked. Let's just say I was about 14 or so and in a parade because some people donated money for me to take college level acting classes one summer. That's more than enough info actually.
So I was in this parade in a small hick town. The parade consisted of some tractors, a few trailers hooked to a pickup and a little pet baboon wearing diapers and overalls who rode around in a little red wagon. Boy, he was cute. I am an avid animal lover and was so fascinated by this creature, so I just had to go up and pet the little guy.
A bunch of kids were crowded around the baboon and the owners. The baboon was being petted and doing tricks for the crowd. I got to pet him once or twice, and went back again and all of a sudden he snapped. He grabbed my arm and started screeching while biting and scratching my arm. The owner pulled him off of me and freaked out. I was pretty freaked out too at this point.
I was bleeding and it even left a scar, which is mostly gone today. I can still see it if I look hard enough, but why bother? I always have the memory of that attack regardless.
Honestly, I felt sorry for the little guy. He attacked because he was scared of the crowd, you could see it in his eyes right before he bit me. His owners were rather cruel to him too. After the attack, the female owner bit his hand and said "No biting". I found that odd, but not exceptionally mean. The monkey screeched when she bit him and looked a bit sad. It made me feel bad for him attacking me at this point!
But it got worse. When the female told the male owner, he pulled back his fist and punched the little guy in the head so hard that his head sort of bounced. I really felt bad for him then. They left after that and I still wonder about the critter and if his owners were abusive to him. I am really into animals, and now I understand that perhaps that parading a baboon around in overalls and a diaper isn't exactly the best idea. They are after all, wild animals, not children.
And doesn't my icon just fit this entry so perfectly? I think so at least.
Now let's just hope LJ Idol doesn't ask for our best "Baboon" story because then I would be out of luck. I only have the one.

Oh what a time to be dealing with cancer this is. I'm glad for you that you seem able to deal with it with hope and resilience and a good network, but I am sorry that this happened to you, too.…
I appreciate the point of view going from not wanting to talk about the cancer to really having no choice — looking in from the outside, you never really know what someone else is going through. It's…
