We at Good Enough are building this blogging software, Pika, right out loud here on Pika. Please follow along, cheer us on, and give us feedback. Thank you!

Spoiler Block

Sometimes you want to talk about THAT THING YOU JUST SAW, but you don’t want to ruin it for everyone. That’s where the new spoiler block comes in:

Here’s an example

Custom CSS Code Editor

They say it’s the year of the horse, but over here at Good Enough, it’s going to be the year of the dog(food). Did you know we have a company blog? Did you know that, before this week, it was not hosted on Pika? I know! Well, we took this holiday break to rectify that: https://goodenough.us/

While moving things over, we ended up wanting to make a few specific design customizations. Our philosophy with Pika is that you should be writing, not fiddling, which is why it’s designed so well right out of the box. However, we understand the desire to fiddle, which is why Pika also allows you to add Custom CSS to your blog (at the bottom of Settings > Theme).

Behind the Curtain: Svelte and Responsive

Leading into the holidays we wanted to share a number of updates that have hit Pika without yet registering on the blog. We’ve cleaned a lot unnecessary code out of your published Pika sites while also improving responsive design and accessibility. We’ve also made a number of updates to the software running Pika itself as well as improving a fair bit of the code we look at day-to-day.

Apple Podcast Embed

Earlier this year Pika added easy automatic embed support for Spotify and Apple Music links. That included support for podcasts hosted on Spotify, but not Apple Podcasts, which is a different service than Apple Music. Today, we close that gap by adding embed support for Apple Podcasts!

Here’s one Barry recently enjoyed:

Like all Pika embeds, just copy→paste any Apple Podcast URL (e.g. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dead-eyes/id1494539046) into the Pika editor and we’ll take care of the rest.

Browsing Images in a Lightbox

Soon after releasing the image lightbox feature in Pika we were asked to add navigation arrows to the lightbox so someone could browse through all of the images in a given blog post without having to click on each one. Guess what? It’s Friday, it’s here, and it’s pretty cool!

Tidal and Amazon Music Embeds

While services like Spotify and Apple Music dominate the music streaming landscape, there are many players out there. Lots of folks like Tidal for its sound quality and artist support. Many people have access to Amazon Music as part of their Prime accounts.

All of that is to say that it is high time for Pika to support Tidal and Amazon Music embeds!

Enjoy!

Show Tags in Dashboard

If you’ve been following along here, you’ll know we’ve been in tag-land recently. For our tag-loving Pika peeps, we’ve got something else for you: Now you can see a post’s tags right in the dashboard!

You can toggle this display from the new “Show/hide tags” option at the bottom of the tag filter dropdown:

Pika's new tag filter dropdown in the dashboard, now with a "Show/Hide tags" option.

Edit Tags

Hot on the heels of Filters Posts by Tag, we’ve now added a dedicated section of the Dashboard to manage all of your tags!

At the bottom of the tag filter dropdown, you’ll see a new link to “Edit tags” which will take you to a place where you can do just that. The only thing about tags you can edit is the name, and doing so will update the tag on all of your posts. Perhaps there will be more functionality here in the future, but only time will tell…

Behind the Curtain: Paste, Polish, and Shine

Here at Pika we’re always trying to smooth the corners and help you avoid any small scrapes or bruises as you set about writing blog posts. In particular, we’ve put out a couple of updates that really make the menu system more useful and informative. We’ve also continued improving Pika’s newsletter offering. All that and more!

Filter Posts by Tag

We have a short-and-simple update for you to start this week! If you use tags in Pika, now you can filter your Posts dashboard by tag:

Exports

Exporting your Pika blog has been a support-based process in the past. You would email us, we would generate an export, and then we’d send it to you via email. While it worked, it was a time-consuming process. And we know that for some people having to send that email to ask for an export may have put them off getting an export at all.

The good news is that now you can generate your own exports without having to write us! Scroll down to the bottom of your Settings page and you’ll see a new link to Export your posts and pages. Click on through and you’ll find the option to export in the following formats: CSV, JSON, or XML. You may run an export once per day, and they’ll remain downloadable for 14 days before being automatically deleted from our servers.

Updates to Pika Rules, October 2025

We don’t know about you, but we’re quite enjoying this simple blogging platform that’s home to so many bloggers writing about all sorts of things: video games, coffee, engineering, photography, finance, school, work, hardship, life…

As this platform grows and welcomes ever more bloggers, it's important that our Pika Rules we established earlier this year are contributing to an environment that makes a wide range of people want to blog on Pika. We found some room for improvement.

Improved Image Performance

Since day one Pika has been a nice place to post images. While Pika will always be a blog software and never be designed to be a direct Instagram alternative, we find that blogs are a great place to share screenshots and travelogues, the latter of which greatly benefit from lovely pictures.

Also, since day one Pika customers have been located all across the globe. This means Pika writers have readers from all across the globe. Images being delivered from Ohio, United States, doesn’t make a lot of sense to most readers of Pika blogs.

As of today Pika now serves images from a global content delivery network (CDN) to all readers of Pika blogs. You should generally see much-improved speed when loading up your published blog posts that include images because those images should arrive at your browser from a server that’s much closer to your physical location.

Loom Embed

Pika has added one more embed to the stable: Loom. Loom is one of the most widely used screen-recording platforms, making it a powerful option when it comes to instructional and educational content. We’ve even used it here at Pika to help show how to use our tags feature:

As is typical with Pika embeds, just copy the URL of your video (e.g. https://www.loom.com/share/364d4c5072e645e2863b100bc4ec45be) and paste it into the Pika editor. We’ll take care of the rest.

A Post’s First Image as a Social Preview Image

Since the beginning, Pika has had an awesome social preview image, which combines your post title, blog name, and avatar. It also places these elements in a design that honors the actual theme selections for your site. It’s quite fetching, but sometimes your blog is more photo-forward and you’d rather have your photos front-and-center when you share posts on socials. Now you have that option!

Visit Settings and click on the Use the first image of a post or page as its social preview option. Now, if there are any images in a post or page that you share on Bluesky or Mastodon or wherever, the first image will be used as your social share image. If no images are found in your post, the default option will continue to display.

Please note that one limitation of the feature is that gif files are ignored since any animated gifs aren’t going to play nice with social network previews.

Scheduling Posts

It’s always fun to fulfill a long-standing request in Pika, and today’s one of those fun days. You have always been able to backdate posts, but now you can also schedule posts to be published in the future!

You will probably notice that email newsletters have come along for the ride. When your scheduled post is published by Pika, a newsletter will be scheduled for delivery 15 minutes after publishing time. Excellent!

Newsletter Open Beta

Pika’s newsletter feature is now in an open beta! This means all Pika Pros now have the feature and there’s no more need to contact Pika support in order to get access. Just visit Settings > Labs and turn it on.

With this launch we needed to consider what the subscriber limit should be for a Pika Pro account. We got out our backs-of-napkins, did some math, and landed at 1000 subscribers. At this moment Pika doesn’t offer a Pro+ or Mega Pro account, so if you find that limitation just isn’t going to work for you, please write us and we can figure something out.

Site Translations

Recently we added the ability to set your site language, and now we’re supercharging it. Pika now offers translations for many languages right out of the box. These will appear on your public site the moment you change your language selection in Settings.

At launch Pika supports the following languages:

Set Your Site Language

Pika has had the good fortune to attract blog authors who write in many languages. Today we’re offering a starting point for them to properly represent their Pika blogs as the language they are intended to be. In your Pika settings, you can now choose the language of your blog:
