This Week in America's Test Kitchen: Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake | Serious Eats

I made this Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake for Dad's birthday today. It took me about three hours to prepare all the layers. I got the recipe from America's Test Kitchen. It was, in a word, delicious. Yum. The only trouble: we have 3/4 of the cake left-over. Oh, well. :) Luckily, it freezes well. Right now, I am feeling after-Thanksgiving stuffed.

After these successful culinary events, I ponder my chosen occupation. I do enjoy baking. A future creating tasty desserts is as tempting as the triple-threat mousse cake from America's Test Kitchen.

Someday I'll learn how to embed media. Sigh.

Adventures in Baking

I enjoy baking.  After years of sacrifice, I can modestly acknowledge, that it's rare to find a chocolate chip cookie better than one I bake in my own oven.  My students can attest to this.

When I was searching the Internet for a healthy muffin to tempt my elderly (and too-skinny) father's appetite, I stumbled onto this excellent recipe at a website called Hillbilly Housewife.  This oatmeal muffin is both terrifically easy to make and absolutely delicious.  The recipe suggests adding chopped apples and raisins which I completely endorse.  I use the brown sugar instead of white.  Additionally, I stir in a teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/8 cup of coconut, and 1/8 cup of chopped walnuts.  Yesterday, since I was taking them to a morning meeting with colleagues of the male persuasion, I threw in a handful of chocolate chips.  It didn't hurt the tasty goodness of the muffin at all. After all these additions, the muffins started to remind me of a slightly healthier version of my grandma's oatmeal cake (which I haven't baked in years for reasons unknown to me).

For those concerned about such things, I used the recipe builder at the Weight Watchers site and learned that these Oatmeal Muffins contain only 3 points per serving.  Since I can easily eat two for breakfast, that was good news.

Check out the site if you like wholesome baking and are in the mood for something prosaic yet delicious.

I completely agree. Sam and Dean riding off into the sunset with the amulet on Baby's rear-view mirror was my kind of Supernatural. Those last 30 seconds...talk about shock and awe. ;)

The last 5 minutes kind of made up for the last 4 seasons.

    Especially the last 30 seconds.

I was surprised to find that I have BBC America on my cable package, because I don't watch anything on it really ( blasphemy, I know). But I watched this and it is enjoyable so far
