24Apr24: Andy’s ‘nipped…

He’s got the blank look of a ‘nip user, and he stayed there like this, immobile for several minutes.

He’s really twitchy now, my next clue.

He moved over to the lapboard and slept it off. Good ‘niip!

=(^+^)=

I couldn’t access the Internet on my laptop yesterday. It looked pretty grim because Spectrum tech support’s Jaimie wasn’t able to come up with a solution. I decided it was a good time to stand away from the problem and come back the next day. I have exactly no idea what I did differently today, but I have WiFi again. I hate computers! And I love them to death.

01Aug20: What’s up, Doug?

20200729_084359

Andy’s curious. Why won’t I let him come around to the other side?

Maybe it’s because he has “Itchy Paws” and all I need to start hyperventilating again is Andy to wipe out what little hard won progress I’ve made on the nightmare configuration issues on my new laptop and photo sharing from my smart phone.

Seems like I resolve one issue and bring up twelve more. I’m not kidding about hyperventilation! ( I hope the person who cuts my beard and hair is operating again soon or I might be tempted to do it myself. >self to myself< “Don’t do it, Doug!”)

Post 1896: The kitty boys are back!

IMG_20181104_071823

We’ve had a grumpy few days, thanks to a laptop giving up the ghost, but my new laptop means the kitty boys and I can return to regular posting.

What’s going to fall apart next? I suspect it’s time for the smart phone to go belly up. I mean, don’t expensive things always fail close to expensive holidays like Christmas? And it’s about the only bit of technology I use that’s left to croak!

23Feb26: a little surprise for Andy…

He ran ahead of me when all I had was a cup of tea.
He sensed something on the wind….
Woohoo! ‘Nip!
I offered it to Andy.
Sniff! Sniff!
He pondered this treat…
…then smooshed his kitty mug into it!
‘Nip is good.

=(^+^)=

Andy’s staying away from me just now. He has a huge mat on his right side that I’ve tried to break down.

Poor kitty! I know it is unpleasant to have me work on it, but little by little, I’m getting it broken down and partially combed out
See that light gray toward his tail? That’s the mat as far as I’ve managed to get.
I think I got the worst of it. Unless more is showing, I’ll give Andy a break from dematting today. I know it is uncomfortable when I break down these really big ones.
I think I see a bit more of that mat. Poor kitty! I will hang back for the rest of the day. He put up with a lot on that one mat.

22Feb26:Sunday lunch…

Andy kitty food.
Typical: he leaves a lot.
I don’t know how to change that.
Regardless, I had a lot of shredded chicken breast left over. I made several chicken enchiladas, plated two, the number I felt I’d eat, and a simple lettuce and tomato salad. I left some of the salad. As for chicken burritos, I live in a big beef-raising area and prefer beef as the taco/burrito/enchilada/etc. filling. Chicken enchiladas…meh! I’ll work my way through them.

On top of it, I have several baggies of this chicken breast in the refrigerator freezer. Six months from now, I’ll see if I used or dump them. Freezer meals, sadly, aren’t my forte!
Yes, Andy hovered vulture-like over my enchiladas meal!

21Feb26: the banana was getting marginally too ripe.

A banana that approaches “too ripe” makes a perfect peanut butter- banana-on-toast sandwich.
Andy, of course, was sure kitties would like it.
He watched me closely while I ate it.
Eventually, he decided it probably wasn’t for kitties.
To which I saluted him with my coffee!
Greenies are for kitties, but you know that, Andy.

20Feb26: “Not kitty food, Andrew.”

Just sit there, Andy.
Nothing on my plate is kitty food!
Not the peach slices fruit cup.
Not the peaches in yogurt.
Not the coffee or what I just finished eating – scrambled eggs with chopped onion, ham, green pepper, shredded cheddar, topped with salsa pecante. No, some of it you might have eaten, but the combination…not kitty food!
Boop!

19Feb26: Tuh duh!

Something good happened yesterday!
Did something happen to Andy?
No!
I got a haircut.
Andy didn’t notice.
Eat Greenies, then have a pleasant afternoon nap. That was Andy’s plan.

18Feb26: “Nothing to eat, Doug.”

Andy’s stressed out. It’sa few minutes after midnight and…
…there’s nothing to eat.
I dumped out a handful. Better put a lot back!
Nom! Nom!
He’s a happy furball now.

17Feb27: Fuming!

Once a,week since the end of last year, the cardiologist’s nurse has called me to see if I’ve started the blood thinner.

NO!

One costs more than I budget for food, toilet paper, OTC pain killers, pens, dish and hand soap, light bulbs, and treats to take to my Class of 1966 luncheons. That is to say it is stinking pricey. The other is affordable, an old drug that requires close monitoring.

It turns out that the delay in doing surgery on my breast cancer wasn’t naughty surgeons playing golf, but the surgeons waiting for my genetic testing results, which finally came back. It seems I am genetically predisposed to develop pancreatic cancer (kiss your butt goodbye) and prostate cancer  (there seems to be a butt theme here…)

Knowing these genetic predispositions, the insurance companies are more likely to pay for regular testing. That’s my understanding. If one can understand insurance companies.

I will spare you my diatribe against big pharma and how degrading it is to have to prove to a mega-billion profit-making phamaceutical company you are poor enough to get the OVERPRICED FOR AMERICANS blood thinner at an affordable price, but it would reveal my true political bent as a closet Bernie Sanders supporter who didn’t vote for him because third party candidates for president just suck votes away from one of the two actual candidates likely to end up in the White House. So there!

Speaking of “butts”, I am butt tired of sharing financial data with these companies. Wasn’t the DOGE business and Musk all about sucking out all of our personal financial information held by the IRS (among other illegal, un-American, unconstitutional things)? Hey big pharma! You want to know if I’m poor enough to get a price break on your OVERPRICED FOR AMERICANS pills, send Musk an e-mail.

=(^+^)=

Take that!

=(^+^)=

On a more pleasant note, I get to see the breast cancer surgeon today at noon. After the consultation, a surgery date will be established, one hopes before prostate or pancreatic cancer might occur. One at a time, boys.

I will ask the breast cancer doctor about the blood thinner medication so I am clear if it is Okay to swallow that yet. For Nurse Diane’s sake, I hope it’s “Okey doke, Doug! Your cardiologist, his nurse, my nurse, and I are all on the same team! And we want you dealing with the ‘Afib’, as the cute, expensive commercials you keep seeing on television abbreviate the condition so a non-medical, as we call you, can remember the condition and ask  for the expensive pill, not the one poor people have to take.”

=(^+^)=

I’m happy to announce that someone had to cancel their 9:00 am appointment tomorrow with Vic, the lady who cuts my hair. I get to have my hair and beard cut then instead.

I probably could go a few more weeks….

=(^+^)=

Another day…
…another light meal…
…yes, Andy’s done it again!
Damn cat!

16Feb26: Andy isn’t shy about my breakfast…

I fight Andy any time I make the mistake of eating any meal while while watching television.
He usually hops on the ottoman before I can use it for a temporary setdown place for my meal. Here’s a “for example.” It can have disastrous consequences! How far I set it in depends on how determined and close Andy is.
Bad kitty!
When he follows me too closely, I’m forced to hyperextend to the end table to secure my meal. I cuss the kitty a lot when this happens because the drink’s still imperiled till I’m sure the meal is far enough on the end table not to tip over! Not this time, it was a bit “tippy”, thanks to dear kitty pressing me too closely.
Damn cat! Don’t play cute for your faithful fans! Sometimes you can be very naughty!!
French toast and steamed eggs! Can’t wait to start eating!
Neither can Andy.
A start. Yes, delicious!
Somebody’s cat just moved in closer. I have to watch for furtive paw snatching throughout my meal. I end up stopping the meal at three-quarters done. Appetite gone.

15Feb26: upset…

Andy’s upset with me.
He was working hard at a mat on his hind quarters and wasn’t making much progress. I decided to help. I got more of it off, thought there is much more to go. Will Andy or I get the last of it?
I guess he’s forgiven me or just thinks he’s safe on the end table if his hind quarter’s facing away from me. Cats!
Actually, that’s a good strategy.

Score: Andrew!

14Feb26: “kitty food time!”

Andy stopped by to remind me what time it was.
I checked the time. Yep! “Kitty food time”!
Andy waited patiently in the north bathroom.
Yes. It says cat food on the can. So I mash some on the kitty food plate. It’s a new can so I didn’t have to give it a quick zap on the microwave.
It smells good, but presentation is a bit weak.
I put the plate where Andy eats his wet food, then call his name.
Andy doesn’t…
…waste any…
… time getting onto his kitty food!
