Abstract –
If one of the functions of literature / film is to provide a bank of images as a guide for acceptable behaviours, if the composition of literary or filmic narrative is permitted to borrow ideas form different experiences, ideologies or cultures, therefore when a wrong concept is imported into a narrative at the expense of cultural values/humane qualities of Omoluwabi such adventure must be interrogated and queried. The theoretical frameworks are based on Isola’s theory on “humane qualities” and Otunla’s concept of Omoluwabi. The study incorporates components of a nonlinear narrative structure and a descriptive analysis of acting style, in the examination of the plot structure, casting/acting style and the humane qualities of selected characters in the film: “Gold Statue.” The research instruments used include a library research method, a studio analysis approach. Findings reveal that components of nonlinear technique (i.e. non-chronological order of presentation, story within a story/parallel plot lines, anachronism and flashback) are creatively and effectively deployed in this narrative. The study believes that the narrative in “Gold Statue” places material values over and above humane qualities of love and patriotism. For the fact that, the lead role, Adewale Esho could not be seen as an ideal man, thus, the film fails to fulfil the basic function of projecting a model for young viewers to copy. It is therefore recommended that scriptwriter and film director should ruminate and ponder more on the traits of their lead roles and use such in promoting acceptable behaviours, so as to prevent cases where corrupt images are projected as models for the public to copy.

But in looking at the various theories on the origin of theatre and the various studies on the evolution of theatre practices over the ages, one could see that oreature had played significant roles to the advancement of theatre which hitherto had not been given a meticulous academic scrutiny. Using a library/desk research methods, this paper is therefore set to examine the significant contributions of orature to the growth of theatre practice in Nigeria using southwest, the most advanced theatre culture in the country as a case study. It is also the aims of this study to identify challenges involved in the deployment of orature to the service of theatre practices and offer plausible solutions. Introduction The term “Orature” and not “Oral literature” used in the paper...

A theoretical tool of nonlinear narrative technique and semiotic interpretation are therefore used as a measuring and interpretative standard in this diagnosing exercise. The study indicates the featuring of anachronism, sharing of other stories within a story, dream immersion, and the creative deployment of flashback as components of a nonlinear technique used while four semiotic codes of interpretation comprises referential, explicit, implicit and symptomatic meanings help to relate some identifiable political situations in this play-text to political reality in Nigeria. Findings equally revealed that the invocation of the nonlinear technique in this drama is done to achieve the following purposes: reveal the unique traits of characters, interpret subthemes, manipulate the orders the information which the audience receives, effect what the audience thinks of the characters and the situations, control audience's feeling, curiosity and expectation, by creating suspense and tension through narrative, clues, dramatic irony, and emotional satisfaction.
