Patina is building
lifestyle software

Most software today demands a lot of work from you–– usually in the form of talking to a chatbot for hours. Instead, we think that most personal software should be created as a side effect of enjoying life: doing the things you love, spending time with people you care about, and planning for the future.

So we’re starting with a new kind of camera roll: Angles. Right now, Angles is a really good photos app replacement. You can search with natural language, tap on a photo to see similar content, and make albums that auto-update over time. We are exploring what it means to create the perfect interface for browsing memory.

Photos are important because they’re a catalog of your entire life: everywhere you’ve been, who’s important to you, and your interests are all stored across billions of pixels— and yet, they’re trapped inside of apps that show “no results” more than your actual memories.

We have a responsibility to make searching and organizing information about yourself as easy as searching the internet. Our bet is that solving photo search is the first step towards that. We’re supported by Haystack, Air Street Capital, and a handful of other investors and angels. We’re actively forming our founding team in NYC and looking for two key roles:

  • iOS Engineer.

We’re looking for a seasoned iOS engineer who understands the demands of building premium mobile products: zero tolerance for dropped frames, fluency with UIKit, and a deep understanding of iOS platform constraints and how to get the most out of Apple hardware. Ideally, you’ve shipped your own apps to the App Store, worked on small teams, and know what it’s like to bring 0 -> 1 products to life. If you want to work on some of the most ambitious graphics and product engineering of your life, please reach out.

  • ML Engineer.

We’re looking for the kind of ML engineer who’s excited to work on everything from fast clustering algorithms to hacking on VLMs and training image embedding decoders. Because the Angles ML stack is on-device for both speed and privacy, we spend a lot of time thinking about how to build tiny ensemble models and make our search engine feel magical without needing to make network requests for every character typed. If you’ve shipped ML-powered features e2e in consumer products and are excited by the idea of exploring the edges of embeddings research, we’d love to hear from you.

At the end of the day, for anyone joining the team: you care about shipping without compromising on quality or craft.
