A new start

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have another

quilt started!

A friend shared a quilt she had finished and I wanted to

make one too!

Hers was made following the pattern by

Stitched In Color called Honeycomb Stars.

It seems Moda published something similar back in

2013.

I also found a similar design called Juggle by

Bonnie and Camille, (photo taken from here

   https://thimbleblossoms.com/products/juggle-pdf-pattern )

Then I found a website where I could print off a

template and made a freezer paper one and got

cutting!

I'm using my precious stash of Heather Ross fabrics....

And making much larger hexies!

It will certainly make a statement!

Now to cut out the adjoining triangles from my stash of

solids,

and I can start sewing.

Happy days!

Busy, busy!

Another four blocks to my Checkered Garden...

and one more

makes nine!

This layout...

Or this?

La Finestre is complete,

with still some design decisions to be made about

those 'blankish' corners.

I'm still considering how I will quilt it too?

And this is a commission quilt I am making.

While it is not the prettiest quilt I have made,

I'm trying to put some love ❤️ into it!

Happy sewing!

Motivation

 Hello, I'm back!

It's amazing what a break filled with sea, sunshine and

total relaxation does for one's mojo.

Before I went on my little road trip......

I made some progress on my "Le Finestre" quilt.....

I celebrated a birthday recently

and my special friend Elizabeth sent me some lovely

fabric and a sweet pair of scissors!

Who wouldn't be motivated?

Some of these fat quarters were $2.50!

I also purchased some new fabric to add to another

project I started just before I left.

It is the "Checkered Garden" tutorial

by "Film in the Fridge", available here

It comes together so well!

I've now made four....

They finish at 14" square, so I am aiming for a

3 by 3 arrangement

to give a baby quilt of 42" square.

I love how they look together

And looking forward to making five more soon!

I hope I remember how to use my sewing machine......🤔

Happy days!

Hello again!

 It's been a while.

I'm still sewing....

The Potty McDotty centre section is together.

I was thrilled to find the perfect fabric.

I was looking for a green check that resembled trellis!

I intend to change up the pattern to make it more

'me'.....

probably some wider low-volume borders with vines of

flowers echoing those already made.

I've decided it will be called La Finestra, Italian for

'window'.

It feels like I am looking in the window of row after row

of vases of flowers.

I've also been busy sewing for an upcoming Christmas market.

I felt I could kill two birds with one stone...

One, to work through my stash some more,

and secondly to meet some locals, as the market will be held in our little village

a couple of weeks before Christmas.

I've made tissue cosies, washcloths, tea bag caddies,

drawstring bags and bookmarks.

It's certainly been satisfying sewing up some orphan blocks!

I'm even using binding strips for the drawstrings!

Anything else I could make?????

Happy sewing,

SUZ

My scraps were calling me....

This is what I started with, two tubs of scraps....

I sorted into strips

and smaller squares and rectangles

I'd decided to make a string quilt based on one I'd

seen on Pinterest,

by Emily @ Quilty Love

Photo From Pinterest

And started making blocks.

I'm foundation paper piecing the blocks to ensure the

stability of all those seams

I'm really liking where it is headed.

I'll be back when I have more to show you.

Have you ever made a string quilt?

A Pandemonium of Parrots

Or would you rather a 'prattle'?

Whatever you call them Australia is home to many

species of cockatoos and parrots!

Many live around my new regional home!

So when I stumbled across a budgie pattern,

found HERE, I knew I

could adapt it to suit my purposes.

I purchased some new Japanese solids which feel

beautiful and felt they would be

a wonderful addition to my stash.

I did a practice one first.....

Can you see where I made an error change?

It is the extra piece of blue fabric on the lowe

left-hand side of the bird's body.

Once I had done that, I decided it made for a better

shaped bird.

Again I made an improvement by giving the next bird a

two-toned taill

Then with the more complicated design I also split the

tail colour into two.

They look more like birds with their felt eyes.

On a recent morning walk, I saw a flock of these pink

and grey galahs.

So had to make one of those too!

Looking at the above photo I think I could have placed the colours better....

There are a couple of extras pieces in this one to get a

good range of colour.

I have four that I definitely want to use.....

I think I will let them sit on their perch for a bit and

then decide where to go next.

Happy sewing!

PS I saw this painting at the Bendigo Art Gallery today.

It is by an Australian female artist, Ellis Rowan.

Enjoy!
