Simply New....

As promised I have started a new and simple

patchwork project!

I started cutting out 2.5" squares from my scraps

about eighteen months ago...

So I decided it was time to dive in and go for it....

making 16-patch blocks....

I need 50 of these for the plan I have...

an idea I saw on Pinterest...

And here it is waiting to be pieced together!

I hope to get it together this week sometime.....

(edited: a full tutorial can be found here )

A Follow-up...

As a thank you to Rose for all the Cotton and Steele

fabric and blocks she sent me,

 I decided the Lola pouch

would make a nice gift...

Some Jane Sassaman for the outer and Lighthearted

for the binding?

The Lola is my 'go to' pouch pattern!

It goes together so easily,

with everything well explained!

I was glad I remembered I had these leather

tassels;

they do add a certain 'finish' to the whole thing!

I have also wanted to make one of these....

for ages!

It is from "Patchwork Please" a very popular book

from a few years ago!

And then I remembered I had a half-finished

mug rug

that was a perfect match!

I hope Rose drinks tea!

They are now living in the US, so I can share them

with you !

I hope you love them Rose.

The blog post with no name....

Autumn is in full swing in Melbourne....

I am planning a whole cloth quilt with this Nani Iro

double gauze,

for a baby due in August.

I had a mini charm pack of these pretty fabrics....

that quickly turned into this drawstring bag.

And my English paper pieced blue wren....

is ready to be appliqued,

as soon as I get the papers removed!

I've also been playing with this combination...

as the Four-In-Art, May 1st deadline looms.

From Ugly Ducklings...

to beautiful swans!

Well, that may be an exaggeration, but I have

enjoyed watching these 'ugly' fabrics....

come to life with various borders....

round one

round two

Stripes and spots certainly do the trick!

And all of a sudden they don't look so ugly after all!

Here are a few I prepared earlier!

And the blocks together yesterday,

before I finished the last six today!

Now to decide whether I need sashing and

cornerstones...

Suggestions gratefully accepted!

Happy days!

Farming...

I have decided this section of "Melbourne Town",

is in the farming region!

This panel measures 16.5" square!

I think if I had started at this panel,

I would have stopped right here....

It would make an awesome mini!

Time to tackle this section....

with plenty of hand stitching of hexagons and

dresdens to contemplate!

Happy days!

I'm published!

My project is in the October edition of

"Homespun" magazine!

Oakshott Scraps from my friend Cindy @Live A Colorful Life

I first received an email from the editor early in

November 2013!

Yes, that was eleven months ago!

I redesigned a block from an

old quilt blocks book-

The block was called "Dusty Miller".

Pardon the scribblings....

I made some subtle changes

and used modern day

foundation piecing techniques!

Oh, that's blurry!

I echo quilted around the design,

And I forgot to take any photos of the finished item

before I sent it off in March!

Nearly perfect points!

So here are some photos from the magazine!

If you decide to make my block or bag,

I'd love to see it!

I think a series of these blocks would make a great

quilt too....

And as extra encouragement, I am happy to send a

copy of the magazine to one of my faithful followers!

If you have left a comment on my blog in the last six

months, and would like a copy,

leave me a comment on today's post-

tell me how you'd make my Dusty Miller block more

YOU!

I will pick a winner in a week or so....

A Last Minute Gift...

Last minute because today is my last 'official' day of

school til February!

 (Happy dance....)

And when one of my dear friends gifted me this pretty

fabric,

(hopefully enough to make a blouse),

I made something in return....

A mug rug!

I started with 1.5 " squares.....

And backed it with this piece of Liberty!

My colour choice was inspired by...

the mug I bought first!

I love the low volume feel of this...

I hope she loves it as much as I do!

On a side note, thank you to all my followers for

voting for me for the Travellin Pic Stitch Bloghop....

I won the Australasian section!

In celebration I will be having a   g.v..w.y   soon!

Happy days!

Confetti!

No, not wedding bells...

But a new quilt!

This was a pattern I won from Mary's Cottage Quilts

blog...
Can you see the mistake?
I just spotted it as I up loaded the photo!
Duh!

The border fabric is called "Chloe"- appropriate for a

baby girl's quilt, don't you think?

The border reminds me of confetti so I am staying

with that name...

So with backing and thread at the ready......

I guess I'll be finishing this one real soon!

Happy sewing!
