And best of all, we will develop these skills through wonderful works of literature! You will read and write a lot in this class-that's the only way to become a better reader and writer. You will learn how to critically read a text, make claims, support those claims with textual evidence, and analyze how that evidence supports your larger arguments. These skills will prepare you to succeed in all your courses, and in your career beyond the university. You will learn that improving writing skills depends upon learning the processes of brainstorming, drafting, revising, drafting again, revising again based on feedback, and polishing. Writing shouldn't happen in a vacuum; you will need help, and that is what this class is for! We'll write in class every day, and you'll learn a range of strategies for analyzing complex texts and writing convincing arguments. Since you will be doing so much writing every week, it is very important that keep an eye on the deadlines for assignments. Writing is a process, and so you need to complete all the parts of that process.
