Dr. Palmer was invited to give a talk for the Kansas State University Department of Anatomy and Physiology Spring Seminar Series on April 8, 2025.
His talk, “Using genetic approaches to understand addiction-related traits,” was presented remotely.
We are pleased to announce that after a department-wide search, Dr. Abraham Palmer has been selected to continue as Vice Chair of Basic Science Research in the UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Palmer commenced the role of Vice Chair of Basic Science Research in 2016.
Dr. Palmer is a co-author on the review article titled “Psychiatric Genetics in the Diverse Landscape of Latin American Populations,” which was published in Nature Genetics.
The award presentation took place during the weekly Department of Pharmacology Seminar Series and included Dr. Palmer’s Distinguished Alumni Lecture, “Understanding addiction through the lens of genetics.”

Denghui Chen received an F31 Predoctoral Individual National Research Service Award from the NIH & NIDA for his project titled “Unraveling the Role of Tandem Repeats and Structural Variants in Addiction-Related Behaviors Using Heterogeneous Stock Rats.”
Dr. Palmer is a co-author on the manuscript titled “Genetic Propensity for Delay Discounting and Educational Attainment in Adults are Associated with Delay Discounting in Preadolescents: Findings from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study” was accepted in Genes, Brain and Behavior.
Dr. Palmer is a co-author on the manuscript titled “Sex-specific Concordance of Striatal Transcriptional Signatures of Opioid Addiction in Human and Rodent Brains” was accepted in Biological Psychiatry: Global Open Science.
The manuscript titled “Dissociation of intake and incentive sensitization during intermittent- and continuous-access heroin self-administration in rats” was accepted in Psychopharmacology.
