
Adolf (Avraham) Neubauer ז״ל
Adolf (Avraham) Neubauer (1832-1907) received a traditional rabbinic education in Slovakia and studied oriental languages at the Universities of Prague and Munich. He spent most of his career as the specialist in Hebrew at the Bodleian Library and a reader in Rabbinic Hebrew in the University of Oxford and he published widely and innovatively in Jewish studies. He is particularly well-known for his *Catalogue of the Hebrew Manuscripts in the Bodleian Library*, and for his volumes on the Jewish exegesis of Isaiah 53, the geography of the Talmud, and the Ben Sira texts from the Cairo Genizah.
