What happens when you take a LACK shelf from IKEA some track you found in a box and a rainy summer? You end up with a light railway branch line terminus of course.
The Victory is named after a long-forgotten pub on the beach at Kingsdown, Kent and while it is not as per the prototype, I hope the layout gives a flavour of the location.
In my imagination Kingsdown has a Colonel Stephens light railway that runs from Deal along the flat coastline. It borrows scenes and vignettes from across the Colonel’s empire and gives me the opportunity to not follow any prototype too closely.
Its all done using bullhead code 75 Peco track, while being far too heavy for the prototype, means I can get the track down quickly and not have to worry about changing my mind halfway through.
The layout is completely DCC with a small locomotive fleet but with an emphasis on DCC sound.
Some of the buildings are 3d printed from available ranges while the others are from Bachmann.
The layout is designed to be viewed from the majority of angles and therefore has no backscene.
The leading design cues were portability, cheapness, and speed. The shelf itself can still be stored using the original LACK bracket when not in use – it really begs the question why you haven’t started building your own yet?
