Before Lập was even born, his grandparents knew he was going to be special. They carefully and intentionally picked out a name for their grandson, vowing that he would never want for anything. They would do all they could for their eagerly awaited grandchild!
When Lập was born, his grandparents were ecstatic, ready to take care of him. However, when it was discovered that Lập was born deaf and mute, they hesitated. Did they know how to care for a deaf child? Could they provide for him the way they wanted to?
With their resolve now strengthened, Lập’s grandparents knew they had to do everything they could to protect and care for him. They made sure Lập never had to lift a finger at home, cooking him special food, and even going so far as to cut and feed him his food.
They were also fearful of Lập experiencing bullying from his peers, so they never let him leave the house. Soon, Lập was all grown up, but had no experience taking care of himself. He had grown accustomed to a solitary life at home, but something just felt missing.
It was then that his grandparents heard of New Beginnings School for the Deaf, the school you provide! Eager for Lập to meet other deaf kids, they began to bring him to school every day. Lập was quiet and introverted at first, not used to interacting with others, and certainly not used to being out of the house for so long.
Gradually, Lập began to open up. He learned more and more each day, not only important school subjects, but also life skills. He was soon eating by himself, talking to his friends, and even helping clean the classroom!
You provided a place for Lập to not only feel safe to be himself, but to make new friends and to learn how to be self-sufficient! He now even leads a classroom initiative to collect recyclables and put them to good use.
In the words of Lập’s grandfather: “Every day I see Lập growing up. When he first started school, he didn’t know anything, but now I see him becoming bolder and smarter... I thank Orphan Voice for giving Lập a wonderful place to learn, so that when he goes to work in the future, he will know how to communicate with others.”
