Minotaur and a friendly game

With having both a Chaos Chosen and Renegade team it seemed a little amiss not to have a Minotaur. So I picked up a 3d printed model for a very reasonable sum. I painted him up to match the Renegade team colours, but with a little red  added he should be fine for the Chosen team as well.

I'm quite happy with how he has turned out. He has even been nicknamed 'Rocky'.

Also on Thursday I had a friendly game with Sean, who was wanting to try out his new Norse side, so I duly took him on with the 'Da Bad Moon Blitz' Orc team. After taking an early 2-0 I had to settle for 2-1. There were significant casualties on both sides. The Yeti with claws is very effective getting through normally tough Orc armour, A few pictures from the game.

Pre season II

As the club approached the start of our Blood Bowl league, we had another round of pre-season  games. Three teams got their pre-seasons under way. The Orkland Raiderz took on the Elder Suns, Clar Karond Corsairs went up against the LV Raiders and the Tir na Nog Ravens against the Renegades.

Clar Karond Corsairs vs LV Raiders 2-1

The Corsiars got off to a flying start in this game, quickly gathering the ball and attacking down the right flank. The speed of the move seemed to take the Raiders by surprised and they quickly found themselves a touchdown behind. From the re-start, things didn't get much better for the Raiders as they failed to gather the ball. Corsair players quickly swarmed across the line of scrummage, putting 2 Raiders players in the injured box. The Corsair blitzers, quickly dashed in, scooping up the ball before moving in for their second score.

At least at the next re-start the Raiders managed to get their hands on the ball. Quickly putting a protective corden around the ball carrier, they slowly made their way forward. Despite Corsair players dodging in they failed to majorly disrupt the Raiders, Who then finished off the a great move and pass for o ne of their Blitzers to move in for the touchdown, their first of the pre-season.

Tir Na Nog Ravens vs Renegades 1-0

This was a brutal game which saw a number of Ravens players sent to the treatment rooms. Their lack of armour was their undoing. However they did manage the only score of the game and hung on desperatly for the win.

Elder Suns vs Orkland Raiderz 1-1

The opening exchanges of the game were a steep learning curve for the Raiderz. The lightning speed of their opponents was proving difficult to contain and quickly resulted in them conceding the first score. However once the Raiderz managed to get the ball, they reverted to tried and tested tactics of slowly trundling upfield, keeping th Suns players at bay. However as the line got closer things began to get a little bit more difficult, but the dancing feet of a Raiderz player managed to get into space before handing off to a teammate who scrambled over the line on the last turn.

So another 3 games under the belts. We have a couple more planned for next week then the players will submit their teams ready for the big kick off.

Pre season games

At the club on Thursday I found myself umpiring 2 games of Blood Bowl. With 3 players in their first game and Mitch only having the 1 game under his belt.

Game 1 saw Mitch with his Wood Elves take on Neil and his Dwarfs. Neil struggled to get to grips with the speed of the Elves. Their lightning quick attacks were able to exploit any gaps. As Neil said, Dwarfs are much less of a power house that they had been in the Old 2nd Edition days.

So the Elder Suns ran out 2-0 winners against the New Karak Gyros

Game 2 saw 2 novices, Thom and Robbo with Chaos against Humans. The whole game was characterised by Robbo's total inability to pick the ball up. Not thatThom was much better. In a close hard fought affair Thom sneaked the win with the one successful pass of the game

So the Chaos Renegades ran out 1-0 winners against the LV Raiders. Hopefully we have 2 or 3 more preason games next week as everyone gets used to the rules and possibly try out new teams.

Ratsburg Squealers vs Da Bad Moon Blitz

So tonight Mitch and myself gave the new rules a try out as part of the Pre-season before our league starts, Miitch took the Squealers as he wanted to try out a Skaven team. I took the Blitz.

The game started with the Blitz receiving. They quickly got hold of the ball and began to form a cage to protect the ball carrier. Meanwhile the Squealers attempted a quick break through but after making little success they pulled back out of range of the Orc. Meanwhile the Blitz tightened up their cage and began to trundle down the field. One of the Squealers Blitzers managed to get himself trampled to death under the cage. Eventually forcing an opening on the right hand side, The Blitz made a succressful pass and an Orc Blitzer charged to the line for the early score.

From the re-start the Squealers Gutter Runners burst into space, while the remaining blitzer with a few line rats in support tried to create a gap on the left hand side. With the opening created, their thrower swept around, handing off to a Gutter Runner who then burst into space before firing a pass to an open colleague who quicly danced his way into the endzone. 1-1 right on half time.

The second half began and once more the Skaven charged down the left flanks. With most of the Orcs tied up in the tackle zone. Leaving a single Blitzer to make a last ditch attempt to knock out the Gunner runner. Doubke skulls, then a reroll only got a push back. Not enough as the Gutter runner simply dodged out of the tackle zone before moving into the endzone to give the squealers a well deserved 2-1 lead. However the Blitz still had 7 turns to get a score.

So 7 turns, well the Blitz would go for the tried and trusted cage. Then promptly failed to pick up the ball. Luckily the Squealers had set up well back and were unable to exploit this. The Blitz promptly regathered the ball and began to push down the right hand side. The Squealers did their best to try and disrupt the cage, but were being gradually forced back towards their own line. With the Blitz eating up the turns as they ground their way downfield, The Squealers tried a desperate last ditch blitz However luck was not on their side, rolling a 1 for a go for it, promptly falling flat on their face. This allowed the Blitz to use their last turn, clearing the squealers out of the way, creating the gap for their thrower to tie the game in the last turn.

A good run out for both teams, finishing honours even at 2-2.
