About

The WGDashboard project began in December 2020 when Donald discovered how challenging it was to manage WireGuard. At the time, users had to SSH into their servers and execute commands through the terminal—a process that was tedious and far from user-friendly. Recognizing this pain point, Donald set out to create a more intuitive solution.
After pushing the project to GitHub, it initially received little attention. Between the demands of school and a full-time job, Donald found himself stretched thin. By March 2022, after releasing v3.0.6, the project came to a halt as life's other commitments took priority.

Fast forward to 2024. Donald noticed something had changed: the project had quietly gained traction within the community. Issue tickets were steadily accumulating, and it became clear that people genuinely needed and wanted this tool. Motivated by this unexpected interest, Donald made a decision—it was time to breathe new life into WGDashboard.
He dedicated three intensive months to completely reorganizing and modernizing the codebase. The result was v4.0, a major release that represented not just an update, but a reimagining of what the project could be.

It was during this revival period that Donald met Daan, who would become an invaluable contributor to the project. Daan brought Docker expertise to the table, creating a comprehensive Docker workflow that made WGDashboard accessible to containerized environments. Beyond the technical contributions, Daan also became an active presence in the community, helping users troubleshoot issues and providing guidance.

Together, Donald and Daan transformed WGDashboard from a dormant side project into an actively maintained tool that continues to make WireGuard management more accessible to users worldwide.
