Alix Kramer, LCSW

Alix is a licensed clinical social worker who works with ages 12 and older, but specializes in late adolescence and early adulthood (ages 16-35). After studying journalism at Northwestern and working in the art world, she returned to Chicago for a master’s degree in social work at the University of Chicago. After interning at OPBMed and then on the GI service at Lurie Children’s Hospital, she was thrilled to return full time to Oak Park Behavioral Medicine. In her free time, Alix loves to knit, sing, and spend time with her black cat Arnold.

Alix uses a mix of CBT and ACT approaches, with a focus on self-compassion and shame work. She is also certified in hypnotherapy and gut-directed hypnotherapy. Alix believes firmly in the power of vulnerability and self compassion and as a therapist she approaches each client and each session with unconditional positive regard (from the client-centered therapy approach). She also believes strongly in the power of knowing what is going on inside on a physiological and psychological level to better understand and normalize our experience, and sessions with her include education about these processes.

Alix is a good fit for someone looking for a therapist with knowledge of hospital systems or for someone looking for an active therapy space to learn coping skills. She is also a good fit for someone looking to work with an LGBTQ therapist.

Please note that Alix will only be accepting in person clients until May 2025 and after that time will only be available for Telehealth.
