Colleges offer courses that aim at helping students to develop creative and critical thinking skills. The current generation of students belongs to the millennial generation. The millennial generation refers to those born between 1981 and 1999. This generation has grown up immersed in technology. The millennials are growing up with the World Wide Web and digital technologies including laptops, cell phones, text messaging, and video games, but do not necessarily develop creative and thinking skills just because of this. To develop creative and critical thinking skills, a digital storytelling course was designed for freshmen in a Midwestern university in the United States. Digital storytelling is the art of combining images, audio, and sometimes video to tell a story (Frazel, Digital storytelling guide for educators, International Society for Technology in Education, Washington, DC, 2010). Research shows digital storytelling improves engagement, critical thinking, and creativity. This research reports on experiences in a transition course designed to help freshmen develop critical and creative thinking skills, transition to college life, and understand college-level work ethics.

Participants for the study were drawn from a teacher education program in a large Midwest public university. Data were collected using a webbased survey with a total of 121 responses used in the final analysis. A multiple regression analysis was conducted to evaluate how well Productivity Tools, Presentation Tools, Communication Tools, and World Wide Web Tools predict Student Evaluation of Faculty Instructional Quality. The overall significant results of the regression model and the subsequent significant results of the t-test for Presentation Tools and Productivity Tools is an indication that Presentation and Productivity tools can be used by faculty to facilitate student and faculty interaction, promote cooperation among students, promote active learning techniques, give prompt feedback, emphasize time on task, communicate high expectation and respect diverse talents and ways of learning.

The study sought to explore whether different forms of technology: Productivity Tools, Presentation Tools, Communication Tools, and World Wide Web Tools, reliably predict instructional quality. The study also aimed at examining which of the predictors is more important in predicting instructional quality. A large Midwestern University Teacher Education program was the accessible population from which a convenient sample was drawn. A total of 121 responses were used in the analysis. The response rate of the study was 56.6%. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Findings from the null hypothesis and the supplementary analysis converge to indicate combination of Productivity Tools, Presentation Tools, Communication Tools, and World Wide Web Tool...

To address these challenges, businesses can use Open Source Software (OSS). Even though OSS provides many benefits, including high-quality software and substantial profit (Sohn & Mok, 2008), OSS also has a number of disadvantages. In several countries, governments have begun to recognize the importance of OSS and have started to adopt explicit policies on OSS (Cook & Horobin, 2006). Open Source Software holds several compelling benefits for businesses. Information on wide-ranging use and examples of OSS in organizations are scattered and sometimes skewed to a few OSS. The chapter identifies different OSS that are currently used or have the potential to substitute other proprietary software packages in business; how organizations share information and how OSS is used globally by organizations and governments and their implications thereof is reviewed.
