Employee Spotlight: Tim Eilers

Tim Eilers grew up in San Francisco and earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University, along with a minor in Philosophy. OLogic was his first “real job” after college, and four years later, he still enjoys the variety and constant learning that originally drew him to both electrical engineering and OLogic. He appreciates that the field is broad and applicable across many industries, and says every project brings a new opportunity to learn.
Tim’s first project at OLogic was with Dusty Robotics, a collaboration that still holds special meaning for him. He values the strong relationship that continues with the Dusty Robotics team and remembers the project fondly as an important milestone early in his career.
One of Tim’s favorite parts of engineering is the design process itself – especially the moment when PCBs return from fabrication and he gets to test his work for the first time. Along the way, he’s learned an important lesson: slow down and occasionally step back to re-evaluate the bigger picture. His advice is to “avoid the sunk cost fallacy, and be willing to pivot mid-design if another solution seems better long-term.”

For prospective OLogic candidates, Tim recommends embracing the company’s self-starter culture. He believes it can be incredibly rewarding for those willing to put in the effort to develop their own processes, take initiative, and continuously learn.
If he weren’t an engineer, Tim could see himself working in the medical field, where many of his friends and family members work. In another life, he also imagines he might have attended culinary school. Outside of work, Tim enjoys hiking, camping, biking, and playing soccer, as well as spending time with friends over board and video games. While he doesn’t currently have pets, he hopes to get a dog someday. If given the choice of any superpower, Tim would pick time travel. And according to his family, the one food he can never resist is corn – though he insists the legend has grown beyond reality, even if he still enjoys it quite a bit.
