Why donate?
Open Knowledge Sweden is a non-profit organisation that works in the public interest to protect your freedoms and rights related to knowledge, data and information in the digital society. We promote transparency in the public sector through concrete projects that strengthen and are strengthened by freedom of expression, the Freedom of the Press Act with the Principle of Public Access, the Open Data Act and principles such as Open Science and the Open Data Act. These are the fundamental rights that form the basis for the infinite amount of value that is created every day in countries around the world.
Openness is something special. It is like a library or a public park. It is like a temple of thought that creates the basis for development and progress for humanity.
We at Open Knowledge Sweden run the non-profit association democratically. Our association members ensure that even small donations are used in the best possible way and reported openly. If everyone who used open knowledge, such as open data, donated 50 Swedish kronor, we could do wonders. Even if you cannot or do not want to donate financially, that is perfectly fine, as there are other ways to support the association. We all do what we can in our own way. Please consider donating at least 50 SEK, 100 SEK, 200 SEK or whatever you can spare to protect and uphold freedoms and rights in Sweden.
At Open Knowledge Sweden, we run projects and build tools and communities to develop, share and use open knowledge. This is information and data that anyone can use, share and build on.
We want to make it possible for as many people as possible to access the information they need. We support this by providing tools and training in the skills needed to use information to improve the world. We believe that the best way to achieve a lasting effect is to build stronger networks of people who will continue to work for change.
Doing this takes time and money. Establishing a local group, training data users, and hiring community managers to bring together coders, politicians, journalists, and civil servants. Working closely with key institutions to help them open up their documents and data requires significant effort and resources. Community support is an area that is particularly difficult to get funding for.
A simple donation of 50 SEK per month can help researchers and citizens everywhere to freely access publicly funded research. A 100 SEK donation per month can help us campaign for everyone to have access to important information about how public funds are used around Sweden and the world. 200 SEK per month can help educate politicians, citizens, public sector officials, entrepreneurs, activists, and journalists to understand, access and work with data on issues they care about.
