Today we profile the Post’s Fred Dicker, the fourth man in Albany’s “three men in a room” system.
Here’s how he views the politicians and staffers he’s covered for more than 20 years:
“None of them has ever been my friend, as a real friend…. If somebody’s your friend, you can’t put a figurative stake in their heart, and I’d put a figurative stake in the heart of anybody I cover.”
I’m not sure how many reporters can, or would want to, say that. But it’s kind of a gift.
