The battle between political “realism” and “idealism” - both descending from a long history of philosophical debates on the subject - has therefore been very active throughout the evolution of political thought and it keeps emerging in public debates, particularly in those that see right-winged fractions and left-winged ones opposing each other. In light of different political theories and recent debates, three different positions seem to stand out: morality is not applicable in politics (or the case of the “wolf in sheep’s clothing”), immorality in politics is “occasionally” allowed, and morality in politics is possible AND necessary.

Violence subsequently becomes an instrument of individual expression. Like Morales writes in his brief article, violence as employed by Kubrick in his film “serves a communicative purpose apart from its aesthetic values.” Therefore, it seems as if the instances in which violence metamorphoses into art were those in which violence becomes a means of personal expression and carries within itself a specific message.

Accordingly, Tarkovsky writes in Sculpting in Time that “the author of a film” should share “something in common with the psychologist-screenwriter, and also with the psychiatrist.”

No matter the modes in which satire operates—the mild, Horatian ones or the more abrasive, controversial Juvenalian ones—the satirist is vested with great responsibility and must be aware of the power of their instrument.
