Instincts are stimuli of mind that arises from inside; therefore, we cannot physically free from them. His paper offered a new perspective to instinct—getting to the ‘death instinct.’ Watching the video of “Replacement Child” (Richards, 2016 in China) helps me conceptualize the ‘death instincts’ in the analytic context and the cause of ‘replacement child,’ i.e. illness, accidents, suicides, and the subsequent survivor guilt. Below is a general outline of Freud’s (1920) paper. I will conclude with a clinical example of a female patient who lost her mother at age 11 and how it illuminates the function of ‘the dynamics of reassurance’ in our analytic situation.

I think the aims of psychoanalysis are to help the patients learn the truth about themselves (in ways that are helpful to them) and we want to be honest with ourselves in the process. Further, psychoanalytic treatment is to help others who suffer from anxiety from sublimation to gain insight about their being in relation to 'Others' and Beings—to facilitate for the patient's new potentiality for relating to objects in new ways. It is the emergence of such capacities that lie at the heart of human growth and development. Thus, it is a 'new beginning.'

Loewald’s (1951) theoretical framework of 'Time' saddened me a little. It makes me wonder how this aspect of 'Time' affects the ways in which the analyst and the analysand meet one another in the analytic situation in relation to Heidegger’s (2008) ‘Being and time.’ Furthermore, Heidegger's ideology of 'Being' and 'beings' intrigues me how intra-psychic and inter-psychic realities function 'inside' and 'outside' (Chasseguet-Smirgel, 1992) of the 'self,' the 'differentiated self,' and the 'integrated self' (Mahler & McDevitt, 1982) in the working-through (Freud, 1914) of the "archaic matrix of the Oedipus complex.” These psychic phenomena could be observed, co-created, and interpreted in the potential space (Winnicott, 1971) and object-relationships could be experienced and transformed through therapeutic action (Loewald, 1960) in the analytic process.

Microalgae technology can play important roles in wastewater management, carbon dioxide fixation ... more Microalgae technology can play important roles in wastewater management, carbon dioxide fixation and as biofuels feedstock if managed properly. The core challenge is to substantially lower the cultivation and harvesting costs. This study assesses performances of batch wise photobioreactor (PBR) and sequencing batch membrane photobioreactor (SB-MPBR) for polishing real secondary effluent, and at the same time producing lipid by cultivating a native strain of Euglena sp. Lab-scale data were used to project large-scale performance of an SB-MPBR and its economic potential was compared with established conventional biological nutrients removal technologies. Results show that the SB-MPBR with 4 days retention was found to be optimum in terms of nutrients removal (!95% and !70% respectively for total nitrogen and total phosphorous), water treatment capacity and lipid yield (!10%). However, an energy audit on the process shows that the chemical energy from the produced lipid is still at least 111 fold short of meeting an energy neutral process. However, results of preliminary cost analysis indicate that SB-MPBR (0.113 $/m 3) is highly attractive technology for biological nutrients removal than the conventional technologies (0.65e0.96 $/m 3).
