Enfilade 2014 is now just a memory.  It was a great weekend, full of fun, laughs and DBA!  In addition to all the great games that were played, there were some smoking deals offered through vendors and the NHMGS -bring and buy.

One of the gems I scored was a 1:235 scale J.R. Miniatures Medieval Castle.  Now I wanted to keep it generic enough so I could use it with as many different armies as possible as a Built Up Area (BUA) for De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA).

So earlier today, I took a couple of hours and painted it up.  Keeping it simple, I used a combination of washes and dry brushing to get it done without taking too much time.

The Greek & Macedonian Art of War

A listener to the podcast recently sent me the following email:

I am just starting to get into historical wargames and want to learn more about Ancient Greek Warfare.  I have a couple of books from Osprey, but are there less expensive books for a beginning player with only a little background to read?

In response, I would say that there are many good books on the subject of Ancient Greek Warfare, but most tend to be hardbound and at times rather pricey.  One of my favorite books is now somewhat dated, but is still an excellent read-  The Greek and Macedonian Art of War by Frank E. Adcock.  The book was part of a series originally published by the University of California Press with a listed cover price (on my copy) of $2.25.  I am sure it cost more now, but several years ago I picked up a nearly mint used copy for $1 at a used book store.

The book is rather short, just over 100 pages of text and contains no pictures or illustrations, but it is full of fundamental information regarding Hellenistic Warfare.  I suggest you try to find a copy and read it.

Later Greek Hoplite WAB Campaign

Warhammer Ancient Battles Campaign– A few of us were recently talking about the possibility of getting a WAB campaign off the ground and thought Mid-Later Greek Hoplite (400-250 BCE) would be a great era to wargame in.

Remember, in addition to those lists that have been included in AoA2, there have been additional City-States added in the errata. Martin Gibbins will also be adding additional City-States in the upcoming errata which I researched and submitted.  You can find the rest of these states either as part of the Official WAB Errata or here on the website under the heading of ‘What About My Greeks‘.
