The Principles and Recommendations regarding learning outcomes in accreditation procedures have b... more The Principles and Recommendations regarding learning outcomes in accreditation procedures have been developed by the working group 4 of the European Consortium for Accreditation (ECA) to provide a source of assistance and guidance in the area of Learning Outcomes to accreditation organizations undertaking external quality assurance. These Principles and Recommendations represent a shared vision of 16 quality assurance agencies that aim at contributing to the further development and improvement in the use of learning outcomes. The European Consortium for Accreditation (ECA) The European Consortium for Accreditation (ECA), established in 2003, aims for the mutual recognition of accreditation and quality assurance decisions. The members of ECA believe that this will contribute to the recognition of qualifications in higher education and the mobility of students and graduates in Europe. How to award a joint degree in such a way that it is recognisable and indeed recognised? When is ... more How to award a joint degree in such a way that it is recognisable and indeed recognised? When is a joint degree regarded as an official degree in countries outside, but sometimes even inside, the joint programme consortium? How can the design of the joint degree and the Diploma Supplement facilitate access to the labour-market? This publication aims to answer these questions. It provides higher education institutions (and their joint programmes) with examples of good practices. The main aim of these guidelines is to facilitate and improve the full recognition of joint degrees. It intends to do so by clarifying expectations regarding the design and the content of the degree and the Diploma Supplement.

The good practices presented come from assessment reports, the formal outcomes of external quality assurance and accreditation procedures. It regards internationalisation as a complex phenomenon, strongly influenced by the context in which it takes places. As a multidimensional concept, the realisation of quality in internationalisation widely varies in different higher education settings. This means the context and the varied ways in which it is operationalised need to be taken into account when assessing internationalisation.
