The last few decades have witnessed fundamental changes in domestic and international environments particularly in the field of trade. Globalization has blurred the borders between economies and societies around the world. Transnational Corporations (TNCs) became a main international actor during the second half of the twentieth century. The revenue of some transnational corporations exceeds the gross national product of smaller European states and in some cases larger then many African states together. This gives TNCs excessive influence over international market regulations and national legislative and political processes.
The present book is an attempt to explore the relationship between business and human rights and also to look into the obligations of the State and transnational corporations in promotion of human rights. Traditionally, it has been argued that promotion and protection of human rights exclusively falls in the domain of State; however, this notion has significantly changed and it has been strongly established that corporations are also responsible for promotion of human rights.
Eminent scholars in the field of human rights and business from all parts of the world have contributed in this book. This book will be extremely helpful to the academicians, NGOs, students and lawyers as well as other institutions dealing with Business and human rights.

Enforcement of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: International and National Perspectives
The enforcement of human rights in general, and economic, social and cultural rights in particula... more The enforcement of human rights in general, and economic, social and cultural rights in particular, depends to a great extent on legal provisions protecting these rights contained in international and regional treaties, as well as in national constitutions and laws. Since 1945, a large number of human rights treaties were adopted both at regional and international levels.
The book explores the various international and regional human rights instruments available for the enforcement of economic, social and cultural rights. The book traces the relationship of the fundamental rights and the Directive Principles of State Policy in India. The book also traces the jurisprudence developed by the Indian judiciary in the field of economic, social and cultural rights. It concludes that after the Vienna Declaration civil and political and economic, social, and cultural rights are interdependent, indivisible and interrelated.
This book will be extremely helpful to the academicians, NGOs, students and lawyers as well as other institutions dealing with international law and human rights.

After reviewing the sources of Hinduism, it considers the permissibility and types of war in ancient India, explores the rules of warfare and investigates whether war was a matter of course or regarded as a ruler's last choice. It then sets out the humanitarian principles that already applied at that time. Finally, it considers how far the concepts of Hinduism have helped in the development of international humanitarian law.
