ABSTRACT
This paper focuses on the impacts of Covid -19 pandemic on mental health with attention to substance use, depression, anxiety and other forms of usual psychological challenges. The paper took a critical global review of the pandemic effect which revealed that the pandemic encouraged in some instances the use of alcohol as a relevant factor in the control of Covid -19 virus. The isolation created by the pandemic all over the world resulted in depression and some forms of anxieties. The fear of contacting the disease, self isolation and inability of the people to go out for their usual struggle for survival becomes and major concern in this paper. The usual reported cases of the disease by the media create fear or anxiety in the minds of many people. In conclusion, the current pandemic CoV- 19 has badly affected lives the world over. Disease and it effect on public mental health cannot be over emphasis. As the coronavirus pandemic rapidly sweeps across the world, it is inducing a considerable degree of fear, worry and concern in the population at large and among certain groups in particular, such as older adults, care providers and people with underlying health conditions. The researcher therefore, having reviewed the antecedence surrounding the menace, suggests that psychotherapy is key for the treatment and management of people diagnosed as badly affected by the pandemic having mental and emotional disorders. Using dialogue and a variety of psychological techniques such as acceptance therapy, cognitive restructuring, counseling, emotional and behavioral management for optimal and mental wellbeing would be of great benefit.
Key words:, Covid-19, Psychological insights and Psychotherapy
