Victor Manuel Cazares Lira
I am originally from Mexico, with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UNAM, a Master’s in History from Uppsala University, and a Ph.D. in History from Edinburgh University. My research initially explored historians' interpretations of democracy and the concept of the constitution in early American history. In my doctoral thesis on Charles A. Beard, I examined his perception of democracy and the significance he placed on the constitution in the grand narrative of American history.
Currently, as a Leverhulme Early Career Postdoctoral Fellow at the SML at Newcastle University, I have expanded my focus. I am investigating the early constitutional histories of Chile and Argentina, using a multidisciplinary lens that combines political science, law, and sociology. This work aims to dissect the intricate relationship between war and constitution-making. Going forward, I plan to extend my study to include Canada, Colombia, and Mexico, striving to outline a more interconnected history of the Americas through the study of its constitutions.
Outside the realm of academia, my passion for tango and cinema continues to enrich my personal and professional life.
Supervisors: Frank Cogliano, Fabian Hilfrich, Jens R Hentschke, and Ruth Houghton
