
Shanon Taylor
Shanon Taylor received her Ed.D. from The University of Memphis in 2003. She was hired as a non-tenured assistant professor at the University of Nevada Reno in July 2002. She moved to a tenure-track position July 2006, and received promotion to professor effective July 1, 2023. Within the field of special education, her focuses on behavior management, behavior disorders, and autism, and families of students with emotional/behavioral disorders, as well as issues related to doctoral studies in special education. She previously examined the provision of special education in private schools.
She has taught 17 different courses in general special education, behavior disorders, autism, and doctoral seminars in special education & teacher education, as well as a graduate course in mixed-methods research. She has published 23 refereed and invited publications (one republished in a book), made over 50 professional presentations, and obtained approximately $5 million in external grant funding. She was the the project director of Certified Behavior Analysts for Nevada Schools (CBANS) and was a co-investigator on Early Childhood Hybrid Online Special Educator Education (ECHOSEE), both personnel preparation grants from the Office of Special Education Projects in the U.S. Department of Education. She was also a co-PI on the Nevada Collaborative Investment in Teaching Excellence (NCITE), a Leadership Preparation grant, to develop future special education faculty members, and is currently the Project Director of another Leadership Preparation grant, Project SELF (Special Education Leaders of the Future). She is the former editor of The Researcher, the journal of the Northern Rocky Mountain Educational Research Association, and was the 2015-16 president of NRMERA. Her main research methodology involves the use of online survey instruments in mixed-methods designs.
She is the author of "Behavior Management and Social-Emotional Learning in Inclusive Classrooms" an interactive eText from Cognella Publishing, tentatively available in 2025.
