Prof. H. Srikanth has been teaching in the department of Political Science, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong since 2002. He has done his MA, M.Phil and Ph.D. from University of Hyderabad. Earlier he worked in Mahatma Gandhi University (Kottayam), Regional Center for Urban and Environmental Studies (Hyderabad) and Assam University (Silchar). In recent years he has been teaching Marxist Political Theory, Politics of Social Movements in India and Research Writing. His areas of research interest include Indigenous Studies, Ethnic Conflicts, Peace Studies, Political Economy of Northeast India. Prof. H. Srikanth was awarded Canadian Studies Faculty Fellowship in 2005 and Associateship at Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla in 2008. He has three books and several articles in journals and edited anthologies.

Liberalization and States' Quest for External Trade and Foreign Investment: Status of North-Eastern States in India

The Constitution of India assigns the responsibility of foreign policy making primarily to Union ... more The Constitution of India assigns the responsibility of foreign policy making primarily to Union Government. During the period when the Congress Party dominated both at the centre and in the states, the Chief Ministers of the states in India could do very little in influencing the foreign policy of the country. The decline of the Congress party and the rise of coalition governments gave an opportunity for the states to exert influence on the central government's decision regarding foreign policy. But more than the coalition governments, the nation's move from mixed economy to liberalized market economy compelled and at the same time facilitated the state governments to play pro-active role in foreign affairs, especially in matters relating to trade, investment, loans, foreign aid and technological transfer. Some states like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and more recently the new state of Telangana effectively made use of the opportunities that liberalization and globalization offered to them. The present paper explores whether it is possible for northeastern states to replicate the experience of the successful states in influencing the Indian foreign policy and attracting foreign investments and promoting trade and business opportunities with neighbouring countries.

This volume edited by H. Srikanth, C. Joshua Thomas and Recordius Enmi Kharbani, and published by ICSSR-NERC, Shillong, introduces multiple voices heard in the state of Meghalaya during the agitation over Inner Line Permit during 2013. The volume is the outcome of a brainstorming session organized by Department of Political Science, NEHU, Shillong, which brought together both the advocates and the critics of ILP on the same platform.

Although the visual effects and acting of the lead characters in the film have attracted the attention of the reviewers and film critics, what seem to have attracted the audience the most is the director, Rajamouli’s art of narrating the story. The paper argues how the main characters in the film are reinterpreted and re-presented in the film to make the film appeal to the sense and sensibilities of the modern India.
