The Spanish Anarcho-Feminist Movement During The Second Republic: Creating A Space for Female Expression

This paper will discuss the role of the anarcho-feminist movement in Spain during the Second Repu... more This paper will discuss the role of the anarcho-feminist movement in Spain during the Second Republic. As a movement, these new age feminists were able to create an organization that allowed women to achieve gender equality, education, and enfranchisement. The sources in this paper provided background and definitions to explain the environment and new ideas that were emerging from the new republic. The bulk of this paper focuses on expanding the ideas of Martha Acklesberg in Free Women of Spain: Anarchism and the Struggle of Emancipation for Women. Spanish women during the late 19th century were subjected to captivity (through lack of choices) by the patriarchal government. The idea of emancipation to Spanish women was split in many ways and some, such as anarcho-feminists believed that women needed to create an institution separate from the patriarchy and male organizations to be the governor of their souls. The women of the anarcho-feminist movement were focused on constructing a figurative and physical space for enslaved women to be free and autonomous from the oppressive male standard.

This paper will discuss the totalitarian ideology of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and the Unit... more This paper will discuss the totalitarian ideology of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and the United States and how each government used that ideology to its advantage. Totalitarianism and its ideology have been recognized as tool for social mobilization and often receive a negative perception in Western culture. The model of totalitarianism presented in this paper stipulates the established key characteristics of a totalitarian government. Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union are frequently placed in this category despite falling short of some these characteristics. The United States in turn is not classified as totalitarian despite utilizing totalitarian methods to influence social mobilization for its principles of democracy. This paper examines the totalitarian model with respect to Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and the United States to establish the role of totalitarian ideology in social mobilization.
