The primary task of this paper is to identify the different types of translation divergences in the context of the Hindi and Nepali MT with a view to classify them according to the well-defined theoretical framework as proposed in the existing literature. In this paper, the different areas of translation divergences both from Hindi to Nepali and Nepali to Hindi machine translation perspectives have been examined. Dorr's classification of translation divergence has been taken as the basis in order to examine the topic of divergence between the Hindi and Nepali language pair. However, the divergences like Promotional and Demotional Divergence have not been

Nepali, like other classifier languages, has the feature of classifying nouns especially in two ways: General and Specific. General numeral classifiers in Nepali distinguish human nouns from that of non-human nouns while specific classifiers are there for the classification of inanimate nouns in terms of their sortal and mensural attributes. General numeral classifiers also differ from the specific one in that they are morphologically bound units which have no meaning in isolation whereas specific numeral classifiers are free morphemes with their own meaning and can sometimes occur as head of the noun phrases, though their distribution is strictly restricted to their referent nouns.

It occurs in lexical, syntactic, lexico-semantic and pragmatic levels. The issue of ambiguity in any linguistic levels has proved to be a biggest challenge in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP). In this context, this paper is an analysis of lexico-semantic ambiguity with a particular reference to Nepali language. It is an initial attempt to enhance Nepali verb sense disambiguation task following knowledge based approach. To understand a word in its context is a first step of disambiguation task and understanding a verb with its argument structure supplies basic knowledge about its context as well as its selectional preference. In this paper, an attempt has been made to analyze argument structure of 10 most ambiguous Nepali verbs in order to provide linguistic insight for the disambiguation of those verbs.
