Running #OpenBSD 7.8 โ€‹:openbsd:โ€‹

DNS:
#nsd (3 Master Zones), #DNSSEC & #DANE (RFC6698) + #unbound
Firewall:
#pf with auto-fed tables (IPS-style), spambot-tarpitting & service rate limits.
Mail:
#smtpd (Multi-domain, RFC8461/MTA-STS) + #rspamd (DKIM) + #dovecot (IMAPS-only).
Spam-Defense:
#spamd with auto-SPF-walk (no more greylisting issues).
Web:
#relayd (TLS-Terminator, HSTS, CSP) + #httpd (NIP-05, Autoconfig, security.txt).
Performance: Lightweight "Fail2Ban" via 1-liner shell script (No Python crap!).

Wrote new articleย โ€” about how to use some ThinkPad-specific keys with FreeBSD. Most of the Fn-keys and volume control separate keys could be uses "as is"ย โ€” the OS passes the proper and well-known keycodes (like XF86audioMute, etc) to the X server. But some keys needs some "black magic" (devd and acpi_ibm kernel module).

The bonus pointย โ€” how to use ThinkLight to signal about low battery level with Morse code :drgn_aww:

I nerd sniped myself and wrote a monster article doing a code commentary of /etc/rc from #OpenBSD 7.8: overeducated-redneck.net/blurg

I learned a ton of my base sysadmin skills from studying init(8), and decided to produce a modern version of that (I learned in the 90s).

Also, I have armored my webserver against all bots, and fedi is the only place I syndicate. Boosts are appreciated.

#sysadmin #runbsd

Decluterring my server until i only have two: home and rent. Both are low power because i embrace minimalism and low-end spirit.

Almost forgot: FreeBSD and #Debian (or #devuan) are only my friend, (might yours too)

System Administration: Week 7: DNS, Part II

In this video, we dissect DNS lookups performed on our EC2 instance, then discuss just how a caching resolver performs the lookup, moving from "magic happens here" to the below visualization.
