When someone asks me what the #Fediverse, #Mastodon or #ActivityPub is I'll use this illustration from UNIX Review, April 1985.
Wrote new articleย โ about how to use some ThinkPad-specific keys with FreeBSD. Most of the Fn-keys and volume control separate keys could be uses "as is"ย โ the OS passes the proper and well-known keycodes (like XF86audioMute, etc) to the X server. But some keys needs some "black magic" (devd and acpi_ibm kernel module).
The bonus pointย โ how to use ThinkLight to signal about low battery level with Morse code
I nerd sniped myself and wrote a monster article doing a code commentary of /etc/rc from #OpenBSD 7.8: https://overeducated-redneck.net/blurgh/openbsd-init-system.html
I learned a ton of my base sysadmin skills from studying init(8), and decided to produce a modern version of that (I learned in the 90s).
Also, I have armored my webserver against all bots, and fedi is the only place I syndicate. Boosts are appreciated.
just deployed a #freebsd server that i use for #wordpress. it is a low power; 1 gb ram, 25 gb disk, and 1 cpu. but i wonder why it takes a 1000 mb of memory usage.
i only use default setting for #mariadb, #nginx, and #php. strange. in linux, it is different results which more lower than freebsd

I have deployed and run infra since the noughts, through some wild turns in geo/techno-political history, and will say that now more than ever, #selfhosting is an act of resistance.
Depopulate. Defund. Disempower.
