Our 5 and 6-year-old ACKventure campers had an unforgettable morning exploring the Windswept Bog with the Nantucket Conservation Foundation!
•
Guided by Lindsey Balman, NCF Environmental Educator, Woody Newell, NCF Trustee, and Sierra Gilman, Seasonal Education and Marketing Assistant, campers learned how to identify birds by their colors and unique features, practiced listening for bird calls, searched for birds along the trails, and even got to observe them through binoculars.
•
The Windswept Bog and Stump Pond encompass 231 acres of restored wetlands, hardwood forests, shrub swamps, and freshwater ponds, creating habitat for an incredible variety of plants and wildlife. It was the perfect outdoor classroom for our young explorers!
•
Thank you to the Nantucket Conservation Foundation for sharing your knowledge and helping our campers discover the incredible wildlife and natural beauty right here on Nantucket. Experiences like these inspire curiosity, appreciation, and a lifelong connection to the outdoors.

Today, Nantucket Community School staff had the chance to explore the Milestone Cranberry Bog with Neil Foley, Interpretive Education Coordinator/Ecologist at the Nantucket Conservation Foundation.
•
Neil led us through parts of the bog, the oldest and largest continually operated farm on Nantucket, and shared how 170 years of cranberry growing have shaped the island’s agricultural history. We learned about the harvesting techniques and machinery that keep this tradition alive!
•
A big thank you to Neil and to Eli French, NCF’s Cranberry Bog Foreman, for the fascinating and interactive tour!
