Nantucket Community School staff joined the amazing team at the Linda Loring Nature Foundation to learn all about the fascinating world of bird banding. A huge thank you to Libby Buck, Conservation Science and Land Steward, for giving us a hands-on look at how scientists safely capture birds in mist nets, identify species, take measurements, weigh them, and place tiny identification bands on their legs before releasing them back into the wild.

We even got to see some incredible birds up close, including a Yellow Warbler and a Common Yellowthroat!

📣✨ Get Ready to Cheer This Winter! ✨📣

We’re so excited to offer two fun-filled cheerleading programs that are perfect for athletes who want to try cheer for the first time or keep building their skills!

❄️ Winter Vacation Cheer Clinic
Spend school break (December 29-31) learning exciting cheer routines, stunts, and basic tumbling in a high-energy, supportive environment! Athletes will work on choreography, coordination, and confidence while having tons of fun.

🕛 NPS Half-Day Cheer Program
Make the most of NPS half days on 1/14 and 2/11—one registration covers both dates! Athletes will start with lunch, then jump into cheerleading and tumbling focused on strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. We’ll wrap up each afternoon with a fun, theme-based craft to keep the creativity going!

Our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) community came together for a special potluck earlier this month to celebrate the end of the fall semester.

For over two months, students across four levels have worked incredibly hard, and this gathering was the perfect way to honor their dedication. Many students brought a dish from their home country, creating a beautiful family-style dinner that connected us through culture, conversation, and shared experience.

We also proudly presented certificates of completion to recognize their commitment and growth.

Thank you to our amazing students for a wonderful evening filled with learning, laughter, and delicious food! And a huge thank you to our hardworking staff who generously dedicate their time, energy, and passion to the learning of others. We are so grateful for you!

We had so much fun today creating mini Sailor’s Valentines with Emma Young, Education Coordinator at the Nantucket Historical Association!

Sailor’s Valentines date back to the 19th century, when sailors would bring these intricate shell designs home as heartfelt gifts for their loved ones after long journeys at sea. Learning about this beautiful island tradition while crafting our own miniature versions made the experience extra meaningful.

We loved spending time together, getting creative, and leaving with a special keepsake to treasure. Thank you, Emma, for such an engaging and inspiring workshop!
