Naseer A. Alhaboubi graduated from the University Of Technology in Baghdad and holds an MSc thesis at UOT in Mass Transfer Coefficient in a bubble column 1994, Then PhD thesis in Alnahrain Univ in Mass transfer Coeff. in Electrochemical reactor 2000.
He joined Alnahrain staff in 2001, to work as a head of the chemical engineering dept. then as Assistance Dean for the Scientific Affairs College of Engineering till now.
Alhaboubi has taken responsibility for various research projects (Research and development dept. for oil ministry).
Alhaboubi was advisor of 2 Ph.D., and more than 30 MSc students and teaches in engineering
He authored 5 patents and 20 articles.

Dynamics, Simulation, and Control of a Batch Distillation Column using Labview

In this work, the dynamic behaviors of batch distillation introduced by using a step changes in t... more In this work, the dynamic behaviors of batch distillation introduced by using a step changes in the reflux and find the response of this test on the concentration of distillate methanol. And it has been recognized that first order plus dead time (FOPTD) represent the process dynamics of batch distillation. The operating strategies for batch distillation were studied methanol / water mixture, 30% mole of methanol and 70% mole of water. Batch distillation column with eight trays was operated and controlled in real time by using LabVIEW program; giving the temperatures data and finding the concentration of distillated methanol using an empirical temperature-composition relationship model. Zieglar-Nichols tuning rules were applied to determine the parameters of the implemented PID controller. It was found that =1.93, Ti =2760 sec, Td = 690 sec. The comparisons of the designed PID controller with experimental work are included (according to rise time, percentage overshoot and settling time). MATLAB Simulink was used to simulate the system using PID controller.

These networks are exposed to extensive damage due to the underground corrosion processes unless suitable protection techniques are used. In this paper we collect the information of cathodic protection for pipeline in practical fields (Oil Group in Al Doura), to obtain data base to understand and optimize the design which is made by simulation for the environmental factors and cathodic protection variables also soil resistivity using wenner four terminal methods for survey sites; and soil pH investigations were recorded for these selected fields were within 7-8, and recording the anodes voltage and its related currents for the protection of underground pipelines. Shell and tube heat exchanger have been identified as process models that are inherently nonlinear and hard to control due to unavailability of the exact models' descriptions. PC and analogue input output card will be used as the controller that controls the heat exchanger hot stream to the desired temperature. The control methodology by using four speed pump as manipulating variable to control the temperature of the hot stream to cool to the desired temperature. The simulation allows determining gas holdup, a key variable affecting the reaction rate of gas-to-liquid (GTL) conversion using Fischer- Tropsch (FT) chemistry. This work have two parts, the first part experimental work with bubble column with specific conditions and the second deals with computational fluid dynamics CFD for bubble column have the same geometry and operating conditions. Blending of oil stocks with hydrocarbons form non-ideal mixtures, for which excess volumes can be... more Blending of oil stocks with hydrocarbons form non-ideal mixtures, for which excess volumes can be positive or negative depending to the nature of species. Gas oil mixed with nine petroleum fractions or individual hydrocarbons consisting of aromatics, and paraffinic nature in addition to an alcohol and a ketone. The systems have been subjected to density measurements at two temperatures (25 and 35˚C). Binary mixtures of gas oil with the paraffinic spikes, light naphtha, heavy naphtha, kerosene and nhexadecane produce negative excess volume values. This maximum shrinkage occurs for the lowest boiling spike. Where n-hexadecane results in very small negative excess volume and seem to form nearly ideal volumes with gas oil. The spiking of gas oil with, toluene, xylene, MEK or reduced crude show positive excess volume, indicating that such spikes are affected as “structure breaking” materials leading to expansion. Adsorption of chorine (dissolved in water) on activated carbon was carried out in the same reactor. The effect of gas flowrates uG 0.016 m s –1 -0.027 m s –1 which covers the boundaries of the following four regimes: bubbly flow, first transition, second transition, and coalesced bubble and solid concentrations were investigated. In addition of studying the pH which gives an indication for Hypochlorous Acid HOCl, the most active sanitizer form of Free Chlorine. These design guidelines provide a good starting point for system of removing chlorine from water at activated carbon concentration 20 gm/L, gas velocity 0.023 m/s and contact period of time more 17 minutes.
