#Solo-A-Module Month

According to the gaming hermits of the Lone Wolf Roleplaying G+ community and MeWe group (that’s “Lone Wolf” as in playing RPGs all by your lonesome, not the Lone Wolf RPG…though you could play that solo, too. I should look into that), March is “Solo-A-Module Month.” I’m as susceptible to a special themed event as anyone, so in order to try getting my solo roleplaying hobby off the ground once more, I’ve decided to commit to the challenge.

The challenge in question is this: solo roleplay a published adventure module. This presents some interesting challenges, not the least of which being most published modules are designed for parties of characters (playing one designed for solo play is kind of missing the point of the challenge). I contributed to the Kickstarter for the 3rd printing hardcover, and ever since receiving my copy I’ve been looking for an excuse to use it. I had also recently acquired a paperback copy of the Midgard Campaign Setting from Kobold Press. When I bought it, the 5th Edition-compatible version hadn’t yet arrived at my Friendly Local Game Store, but I really liked the graphic design and illustrations of the Pathfinder-compatible edition, so I bought that one without regret. What I really wanted was the setting info, anyway, and I can always buy the PDF of the 5e edition later.

In Which I Try Solo Gaming

I’ve been playing tabletop roleplaying games since the early 80s, starting with 1st edition AD&D, the boxed World of Greyhawk set, and Moldvay Red Box Basic D&D. I started Dungeon Mastering games shortly after that, being drawn to the ability to create worlds and craft adventures I could entertain my friends with. Well, entertaining friends was a perk, but truth be told, the root reason I’ve always been drawn to RPGs is the creative aspect.
