I get 404 error instead of the login page

If you are used to using the /wp-admin/ page to log into your website and now you get a 404 page not found error, try to use the default WordPress login page which is wp-login.php. For instance, for wpcerber.com the default login page is: https://wpcerber.com/wp-login.php

If you have set up your Custom login URL and have forgotten it, first of all, check the website admin email box for a notification email sent by the WP Cerber plugin. In that email, you can find your Custom login URL. If you are unable to find that email, you need to reinstall the plugin manually following the steps below.

  1. Remove the plugin folder /wp-cerber/ manually by using FTP or any File Manager that is provided by your hosting provider in your hosting control panel.
  2. Log into your WordPress dashboard as usual by using the default /wp-login.php URL or another way that you used to before activating WP Cerber.
  3. Install and activate the WP Cerber plugin again.
  4. Go to the plugin Main Settings page.
  5. Check the Custom login URL field. It displays your Custom login URL that you have to use. Please remember it.

How to log into the WordPress dashboard if nothing helps

There is a special version of the plugin called WP Cerber Reset. This version performs just one task. It resets all WP Cerber Security plugin settings to initial values (excluding Access Lists) and then deactivates itself (and WP Cerber Security respectively).

So to get access to the dashboard you need to copy the WP Cerber Reset folder to the plugins folder of your website. Follow the steps below.

  1. Download the wp-cerber-reset.zip archive to your computer using this link: https://wpcerber.com/downloads/wp-cerber-reset.zip
  2. Unpack the wp-cerber folder from the archive.
  3. Upload unpacked wp-cerber folder to the plugins folder of your WordPress by using FTP (or any File Manager provided by your hosting provider). If you see a question about overwriting files or a folder, click Yes.
  4. Log in to your site as usual by using the default /wp-login.php WordPress login page. Now WP Cerber Security plugin is completely disabled.
  5. Reinstall the WP Cerber Security plugin again. You have to do that because WP Cerber Reset can’t be acting as a normal plugin.

Some of security features aren't working as expected

If you test some of those powerful security features, you have to test them either from a different computer or in an incognito window in your browser. Also, you have to make sure that the IP address (or subnet) of the computer is not in the White IP Access List. Check that on the Access Lists admin page.

Note: The plugin added a white rule for your IP subnet when you activated the plugin.

It seems that the plugin doesn't work as intended

Before you send any support request, please do the following:

  1. Load default plugin settings by clicking the Load default settings button on the right side of the Main Settings plugin page. These settings are safe by design.
  2. Check the functionality of the plugin again.
  3. If the plugin doesn’t work as intended, check your other security plugins and server settings (e.g. firewall or extra PHP modules). Apparently, WP Cerber Security doesn’t work as intended due to an incompatibility issue.
  4. If the plugin works fine, apply your own desirable settings. One setting at a time.
  5. Check the functionality of the plugin again.
  6. If something goes wrong, please, try to find out what else on your website or server can lead to the incompatibility issue that is related to your changes in the default plugin settings. See step 3.
  7. If you think, that nothing else can be recognized as the cause of that weird behavior, submit a support ticket.
