1. This morning, they withdrew 2 liters of fluid from around my mother's lungs. TWO LITERS!!! You know, spectralbovine had said "a couple of liters of fluid" when he commented to me about the procedure, and I thought he was being hyperbolic, but no. Now she's at the cardiologist's, and hopefully they can figure out how to prevent this from happening again.

2. The generous and talented delurker made banners for Remix! Exactly the kind of thing I was picturing and yet completely unable to manage with my meagre skills! You can see them in the comments of my last post.

2a. 124 people have signed up! Eep! You can, too. Signups will remain open until 11:59 pm EDT on Saturday, 3/19.

3. The brownies are tasty. More cakey than fudgy, but the hazelnuts add a nice flavor and overall, I would count them a success, especially since 1. they don't have any butter in them and 2. I made a mistake while making them, but it's a very forgiving batter. Again, I did it all without using the mixer. I'm not sure why I'm on this kick of doing things by hand, but it pleases me when it works out.

4. I read Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive this weekend and it reaffirmed my love for Dick and Alfred; I was pleased at their stalwart loyalty to Bruce even if he doesn't necessarily deserve it. Hmph. I mean, I felt kind of bad for him, too, despite myself? But mostly I wanted to box his ears for being a dumbass. [Is it wrong that I laughed when they knocked Jason's memorial case over? According to tumblr, that happens quite frequently and is always used as a big dramatic moment, and I was just like, aw, Jason would knock it over himself if he had the chance.] I also enjoyed Superman's brief visit where he reassures Bruce that he still loves him knows he didn't do it. Also, also, I loved that Alfred figured out something was up because of the em dash in the journal, and how Bruce wouldn't have used one. Hee! Punctuation will give you away every time!

I also really enjoyed seeing Cass and Steph work together (and also Steph looking to Dinah for mentoring when Bruce was in jail). I'd seen scans of them being chummy, but now I have context for it. (Actually, I have context now for quite a few things I'd seen scans of over the years.) I like Steph a lot for the little I've seen of her and thus am kind of refusing to read War Games, even though it's the kind of big splashy arc I've been reading. (I actually downloaded Last Laugh not knowing what it was, and ugh, I did not read that either, because I don't enjoy the Joker, though I have to say that I certainly would not have held Joker's death against Dick in ANY WAY and clearly I agree with Barbara about it. I know all the extratextual reasons why they'll never kill him off, but it would give me such satisfaction to see Jason end him with a couple bullets to the back of the head. And then Jason could stop killing people and have makeouts with Dick. It's the best possible future for him!)

For a post that is less amusement and more actual substance, you can check out what brynnmck said about this arc when she read it last fall.

I'm not sure what I will read next. I have a bunch of Nightwing and a bunch of Birds of Prey, so that's a possibility. I now see where all the Babs/Dinah comes from, and also aw, Ted Kord. ♥

Oh, and I can't remember if I mentioned this, but I did read the Nightwing/Huntress miniseries and everything I read about Helena makes me love her more. I love that she was like, "We both needed comfort, it doesn't have to mean anything" when he was getting all, "Um, I don't know what your expectations are but I don't think we should do this again." Not that I wouldn't totally read about them hooking up again, because it would be hot, but I also don't understand why everybody thinks she's such a huge loose cannon. I think she's AWESOME. (She needs to team up with Jason so they can be angry together and for once she can be the sane, not killing people partner. IJS.)

5. I used the new French press to make iced coffee and it worked perfectly (though possibly I used a little too much coffee and I will fill it a little less next time). It was delivered yesterday (!!! who delivers on Sunday?) and it makes me laugh that it's advertised as a French press for iced coffee (it even says it on the box, which has instructions for making iced coffee printed on it), but the instructions inside (in about 18 different languages) are all for hot coffee. Instruction book fail, Bodum!

6. Daylight savings time has totally messed with my internal clock. I slept so poorly last night, I can't even tell you. And I had these terrible dreams about the bank closing my accounts because I was late paying a credit card bill and they wouldn't let me access any of my money and I had to sign all this paperwork. And then I was playing horse (and losing badly) with Dan Rydell, so I guess it wasn't a total loss on the dreaming front, huh?

7. Happy Pi Day! Time for lunch!
