Good information increases the chances of preserving unique testimonies of our own past in the landscape. The landscape is an important witness to historical changes in the landscape. For prehistory, the landscape is even the only witness to the state of preservation of archaeological monuments. The Bohemian-Moravian Highlands is one of the exceptional areas in this respect. As in the past, it is a marginal area that is not significantly affected by the ongoing destruction of the historical cultural landscape. The catalogue presents the following areas of research in chapters. It concludes with a catalogue of objects documenting the material culture of all the periods studied.

By evaluating the local archeological situations and artifacts, combined with the environmental analysis, it is possible to compose an unusually complex image of the noble feudal settlement of the 13th century.

the town of Veselí nad Moravou yielded an iconographically unique collection of 30 fragmentarily preserved
tiles and one building element. They are base, extension and cornice tiles, rectangular and square, as well as
pot tiles. Some of the motifs feature unusual heraldic decoration supplemented by text on inscription bands
(the coat of arms of the Bishop of Nitra Anton of Šankovice, the papal coat of arms and the coat of arms of the
town of Uherské Hradiště), and the series also includes a relief rendering of the coat of arms of the Lords of
Kunštát, a motif known from the Prague milieu as the coat of arms of Kouřim, a pair of Marian flowers (roses
and lilies) and two variants of geometrical decoration. Six of the eight motifs have a direct analogy in finds
from Uherské Hradiště, and 3D analyses of the reliefs from both series show that they come from moulds made
from a single positive. This conclusion corresponds to the results of micropetrographic analysis. With part of
the collection, a connection with tiles from Nitra and Banská Bystrica should be pointed out.

Samotná plocha ostrova v řece Moravě byla osídlena již v době bronzové. Z této etapy byly zachyceny ojedinělé drobné zahloubené objekty a nálezy v druhotné poloze.

The find consists of an octagonalsection barrel with a lead projectile and a lock plate with an almost complete lock mechanism. The keys to dating the find and determining its provenance are not only the shape of the barrel, but primarily the design of the wheellock mechanism and the shapes of several of its components. Based on the shape of the dog, the manner in which the lock plate was fixed into the wooden body of the pistol, and particularly the existence of an internal dog leaf spring, the pistol can with a high degree of probability be identified as a product of one of the gunsmiths' workshops in the German towns of Braunschweig or Goslar during the 1570s or 1580s. The find from Hradec nad Moravicí adds to the group of archaeological discoveries of European and North American firearms with wheellock mechanisms, and the study provides a selective overview of this group.

To the present day, artificial charcoal burning platforms are evidence of the activity. Our woodland contains a large number of these platforms, but until recently they were little investigated from an archaeological perspective. In our study, we endeavour to summarise some results and observations related to the research of charcoal burning platforms which we have obtained in work on an interdisciplinary project focused on charcoal burning platforms and their influence on the landscape.

Subsequent research in 2015 and 2016 provided details not only about the previously unknown medieval pond but also, thanks to the well-preserved environmental record, about the settlement process and the development of the wider landscape from prehistory to the modern age. This paper seeks to summarize the results of the field survey and to set them in the historical context of the emergence of the local high-medieval settlement.

Two groups of findings are presented – one from the second half of the 13th century, the second from the start of the 17th century. The two groups allow for a view of the diet and foodstuffs of an aristocratic residence, and it is possible to observe the food and dietary habits associated with the upper social classes.

prehistoric settlement on the origination and sustenance of meadows in the Carpathians, where systems of
elevated line formations interpreted as the remains of balks, field systems of unknown age, were identified
in the Čertoryje Nature Reserve, through the analysis of data of the digital altimetry of the Czech Republic.
The geophysical survey was conducted on the site of the deserted medieval village of Vojšice, once situated
in close proximity of these systems. The survey revealed a concentration of anomalies which were interpreted as the remains of several homesteads. Their location correlates both with the newly disclosed balks
and the plot division captured by historical maps.

They mainly comprise metal turnspits and various kinds of metal stands anddevices for turning the prepared food.To specific finds belong the brick spit‑supports. They represent a special kind of building ceramics that is not very common. These supports were a fixed part of raised kitchen furnaces and served for holding a metal turnspit above the fire. To characteristic features of these artifacts belong holes or troughs for placing of individual turnspit sand often rich stamped and engraved decoration. The paper is going to present a collection of these artifacts, which were foundduring a rescue archeological research in the locality Palác Národní in the New Town of Prague. During this research, several of these artifacts were found in the area of the original civic parcels. Older known finds from the Czech region have been mostly incorrectly interpreted, unlike the finds in Poland and Western Europe.

The sword was found in an oval feature of an unknown function (definitely not a cesspit), whose demise dates to the turn of the 16th century. The sword, which can be classified as an Oakeshott type XVIIIb, T14, 12a, can be dated to the period between the second half of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century. These and other findings come from an analysis of the find situation, from metallographic examination, and mainly from detailed typo-chronological analysis of the weapon and marks, by which the sword was signed.

Archaeological research has confirmed that the settlement probably came into existence in connection with the establishment of the local castle, around the mid‑13th century. It did not become a town until the late 14th century, despite the fact that some evidence indicates that the transformation might have occurred earlier. When studying the transformation of the Veselí settlement into a town, it is necessary to deal with the fragmentary nature of written sources, and to take into consideration the specific evolution of the settlement on the Morava River and its location in the border region.

The castle is situated in the alluvial plain of the River Morava, and these rare artefacts have survived due to the high level of ground water. The series includes items of everyday life such as handles and grips, washtubs, pitchforks and wickerwork products, as well as parts of furniture, doors, beams, latches, windows, shingles, wainscoting and others. Although the series is relatively small, it is considerably varied and exceptional owing to the location. It is dated to the period between the second half of the 13th century and the early 14th century.

This paper aims to evaluate the use of non-destructive methods, namely Ground penetrating radar (GPR), used upon the systematic archaeological research in Upper stronghold in Kestřany (distr. Písek). Archaeological excavations in Kestřany was caused by ground works accompanying the gradual reconstruction. In parallel with the ongoing reconstraction we focused on architectualhistorical survey. Since excavations are restricted only to areas threatened by ground works, in 2012 we decided to examine other important areas by GPR. Our main goal was to broaden our knowledge about the stronghold developoment. The following paper presents the conclusion we reached by combining the results of archaeological excavations and the ground penetrating radar method."
