About
/m/subs is a little group that started up when a trip user on 4chan’s /m/ board called “That one UK Windom loving Anonymous” asked around for people willing to sub old mecha anime and toku shows. First was the forum where the first projects were, and are still, organised.
Various people who had their own projects congregated there to offer mutual assistance and so /m/subs was created.
Layzner was the first proper project where the various members pooled their skills together. Most other releases are still solo or 2/3 man projects.

Thank You! You are the greatest people ever for doing this wonderful work, America sucks for not releasing these wonderful classics on video, but thanks to you I can watch all the classic anime mech shows.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!
June 13, 2009 at 4:26 pm |
Thank you for all you efforts in doing this fantastic work. Have you considered doing Mazinger Z series? it would be great because the only series found to date available for download is one subbed by chinese with very very bad subtitles, hope you consider it, and again thanks for all your work.
June 13, 2009 at 7:24 pm |
I think we considered it, but there are a few extra difficulties.
1) The length: 96 episodes is an awful lot to do (a good 2 years work)
2) The video/audio quality: For Great Mazinger we have DVD rips with good quality audio. This is a massive help since we translate by ear and are not native speakers.
It’s just a massive undertaking that we may not do it for a while if at all. Besides, the bad subtitles are funny and you really don’t miss much.
January 15, 2014 at 11:06 pm |
True story on not missing very much with the Engrish-laden subs. Bought the DVD set. sat through the show from start to finish, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m not fluent (or even remotely competent) in Japanese, and IMO you really don’t need quality subs to enjoy Mazinger Z. Or Grendizer. Or any early mecha anime, really.
When you’re an old school mecha fan for long enough, the whole language barrier thing sort of becomes irrelevant. These shows were for kids, and while I love them, some of the episodes aren’t really Shakespeare and holy balls this comment thread is five years old. Just noticed that.
… Screw it, I took five whole minutes to come up with this and I’m not wasting it. Congrats on all your accomplishments over the years, /m/subs. Excited for how close you folks are on Layzner. Keep it up and thank you.
January 15, 2014 at 11:23 pm |
Was aiming to have all of Layzner done for the 5th anniversary at the end of the month but things haven’t quite aligned right….least we have rough scripts for the remaining eps so the main bugbear’s out the way.
July 16, 2009 at 4:21 am |
@Convoymagnus :
There is an English subbed version of Mazinger Z. Check out anidb for the exact info.
@StarSeeker :
Thank you ! Your work (and all at /m/sub) let me re-experience some of my childhood memory! Is it possible for /m/sub to add Godsigma and Goshogun to your future work?
July 16, 2009 at 8:14 am |
Godsigma is an idea for the future. Main issue would be getting hold of good raws, since there wasn’t a Japanese DVD release. I may end up making some frankenraws out of thr Italian DVDs.
As for Goshogun, I heard Shin-Getter were interested in subbing that.
November 10, 2012 at 12:55 pm |
Goshogun may be an option again, given that Shing-Getter is disbanded nowadays.
July 24, 2009 at 7:17 pm |
Infinity kudos for your efforts. You have my tomahawk.
August 16, 2009 at 6:22 am |
For some reason, I can’t get the subs to work. Any suggestions? Thanks for everything!
August 16, 2009 at 9:37 am |
What episode of what show? Are you using VLC?

August 26, 2010 at 2:49 am |
Since you guys have shown Layzner and Votoms some love are you interested in doing Taiyou no Kiba Dougram? It got a DVD release for its 25th anniversary, but I imagine RAWs aren’t exactly easy to find given that it is out of print.
August 26, 2010 at 9:59 am |
xnebula are doing Dougram, they’re 55 episodes through.
December 12, 2010 at 7:25 pm |

Hey! Thank you for all your hard work! Keep’ em classic anime coming! Anyone who can point me in the right direction for those 4 awesome Layzner BGM soundtracks? The megaupload links aredead long time…Thanx
November 6, 2013 at 10:29 am |
Hello!
I’ve noticed your group translates a lot of old-school mechas. Do your group also take subbing requests, perchance? I happen to have gotten hold of a high quality torrent of the, as of yet, untranslated classic Sei JΕ«shi Bismark that I’ve been seeding ever since with my 100/100 mbit/s connection almost 24/7.
Would that be an interesting project for you? I know that I, for one, would love to have that anime subbed =)
Regards

Sorry to bug you, but I am so glad that you’ve resumed work on Goldran π I am very eagerly waiting for more.
Would it be okay for me to ask if you’d consider picking up the Brave Command Dagwon series at some point, too? There was another group working on it, and it’s subbed up to episode 17, but there have been no new subbed episodes in more than 6 years, and the sub group seems to have vanished.
March 17, 2014 at 3:37 pm |
Goldran’s sasword and I haven’t seen him in months. Sorry.
I’m not taking on any new stuff at the moment either.
May 17, 2014 at 4:25 am |
That sucks majorly… I really want to see the episode where Fire Silver appears (and be able to actually understand what’s being said).
Doesn’t have to be *now*… But maybe eventually? Maybe after you’ve finished a bunch of other stuff?
May 17, 2014 at 10:06 am |
Dunno, never been massively interested in Goldran.
June 24, 2014 at 12:38 pm |
Goldran or Dagwon?
June 24, 2014 at 12:59 pm |
Seen Dagwon, just not taking new projects on.

Hey, your subs are very great. x3 I wanted to ask if you could sub Tanoshii Muumin Ikka Bouken Nikki? that would be so awesome. ^^
December 17, 2015 at 8:06 pm |
Thank you guys a lot. I’ve seen your release of The Lensman movie, which i saw as a little kid and loved it. I’m waiting for your release of the TV series!
March 7, 2016 at 11:28 am |
just wondering, Do you guys plan to tackle Goshogun? I don’t think it should be too difficult considering it’s only 26 episodes long.
March 7, 2016 at 9:08 pm |
No.
July 13, 2016 at 4:34 am |
I’m afraid I’m not sure how else to contact the folks at /m/subs aside from just via comments here, but I’ve been looking for a subtitle group that might be interested in tackling the wacky old anime “Golden Bat.” I’ve been in contact with Nanto over at the Skaro Hunting Society about it, too, and I believe he’s working with /m/subs on the Lensman series. I’ve got the entire Golden Bat series in H.264 format, sized 720x576px. Please do let me know if you’re interested! π
July 13, 2016 at 10:23 am |
Drop by the forum. Though from what I know Nanto’s already working on Golden Bat.

Hi,when you gonna complete great mazinger series ? it’s been along time since you post last episode
January 24, 2018 at 11:31 pm |
Discotek licensed it so never.
October 17, 2018 at 5:27 am |
I’m the dude from 4chan who wants to get the complete Dancouga Requiem for Victims OVA subbed. I was thinking one of us skim through the episodes and find the right lines, find someone to translate anything new then edit everything together with both of us implementing about 30 minutes worth of footage each. My question is whose translation would we be using?
October 17, 2018 at 5:28 am |
My email is [email protected]. Sorry, I’ve never used wordpress to comment before.
October 17, 2018 at 10:10 pm |
The best place is to drop by our forum or Discord, links are in the sidebar on the main page. I was under the impression there’s only ever been one translation for the TV series and Requiem, and that’s from the very old official release.
