The Lensman TV project was a dream come true. Only the first six episodes have ever gotten a home media release in Japan, Since helping the /m/subs crew with the Lensman movie in 2015, we started subtitling the TV series as a joint project with them in 2016. This has been a labor of love for all involved. Thanks to sky79 for the translation, starseeker for translation QC, MartyMcFlies for final checks, Alrow for the Laserdisc rips, Dougo13 for the Betamax rips, Laurine for the VHS rips, Kineko Video for the 16mm rip of episode 23, and RetroAwesome for the restored versions of episodes 24-25, with the Japanese audio combined with the Catalan dub.
Possibly have something else finished by end of the year.
To steal quote from Nanto from Skaro what makes this episode particularly special:
“When we started this project, we had a complete set of Lensman episodes, but in variable degrees of quality. As we’ve slowly moved through the series we’ve had great luck in upgrading the episodes with LaserDisc rips from Alrow, Betamax rips from Dougo13, and VHS rips from Laurine. Episode 23 was one of the problem episodes, spliced together from two different sources, in fact it had a spot of about 43 seconds where there was no video at all.” (starseeker note: not kidding, it was blue screen with just audio)
“That has changed now, with episode 23 now the highest quality of any of our Lensman releases. Massive thanks are due to Kineko Video, a professional fan-based community specializing in anime film scanning & video transfers, for finding and transferring the 16mm print of this episode. So not only does this one look even better than the LaserDisc episodes, we’re able to offer it in HD resolutions as well.”
Well it’s been a while. This has been kicking around in the back for a long time, decision was made to do it as a batch from the start since 1-11 had been sorta covered before, and we didn’t want to draw the attention of the sub ninjas.
So Gear Fighter Dendoh is a mecha show from 2000 when the internet was new and cool rather than boring and mundane. 2 normal boys get kidnapped by the titular robot to fight invading robots from the moon with the aid of your standard support organisation and an MILF who built the robot for just such an occasion.
This is a joint with Inka who provided much needed support.
Episodes 1-12 covers first arc up until the first recap ep. Future batches should be similar in size.
