The Erie Canal is celebrating its bicentennial! Join David Brooks from the Schoharie Crossing Historic Site as he outlines the story of the canal and how it has been herald in pop culture, folklore, and history books. April Book Groups

The Monday Evening Book Group selection is Silas Marner, the classic by George Eliot first published in 1861. This is a hybrid group, if you’d like to join virtually, contact: [email protected]. The group will meet Monday April 3rd at 6:30pm.

The Flo Brandon Book Group will discuss The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles, a road trip set in the 1950s, about an 18 year-old just released from a work farm who sets out to drive to California with his young brother, but ends up in New York with two fugitives from the farm. The group normally meets on Fridays, but this month the meeting is on Thursday April 6th at 11:00am (April 7th is Good Friday).

The Historical Book Society is reading My Dear Hamilton by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie, a fictional account of the life of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton, wife of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. (Check Hoopladigital.com and use your library card to listen to the Hamilton soundtrack before or after reading!). The group will meet on Thursday April 13th at 5:00pm

The Light Bite Book Club will discuss The Messy Lives of Book People by Phaedra Patrick. “The house cleaner of a famous author must carry out her employer’s shocking last wish,” (from the publisher). Light Bite will meet on Wednesday April 19th at 1:00pm. Registrants may opt to participate via Zoom using the link that will be sent in the reminder email 24 hours before the meeting. – CH

Two MPL book groups bookend the first week of February. The Monday Evening Group will discuss Bowlaway by Elizabeth McCracken on February 1st at 7:30pm. The Flo Brandon Book Group is reading The Witches: Suspicion, Betrayal and Hysteria in 1692 Salem and will meet on Friday February 5th at 11:00am. Register to get a Zoom invitation to join either, or both groups.

On Wednesday Feb 3rd, join us for a virtual presentation “What is CBD?” with Donna Aquilino and Sarah Montgomery, owner of Sarah’s House of Health in Mahopac. They’ll discuss the health benefits, the safety and the uses of CBD. Registration required.
