It's all un poco loco… wine & dine 2022 recap

I didn’t think it would be this long between race recaps especially as things are starting to feel like normal again. Though since this Wine and Dine is all about music (and the cultures surrounding it) let me quote the Ducktales theme for a moment and say Life is Like a Hurricane and that was what caused my October event to be delayed until December. As I didn’t have anything on the docket in September aside from training runs this is my first recap since Watermelon in August

And now for my Wine and Dine Weekend Recap. This is my sixth in person Wine and Dine and Ninth in person RunDisney event and so I’d like to say I’m old hat when it comes to how things go down however like with Big Brother, RunDisney has a bit of an expect the unexpected mantra to it and a few days before the event was to happen it was announced there was a VQ that would be in play for Day One of the merchandise area. And so with a bit of finagling to get into that 45 mile range (despite maps saying we had been 34 miles away from Wide World of Sports) we managed to snag shopping group 50 at just after the queue opening at 7:30. At this time the estimated shopping time we were given was 10:35 am which was great considering the area opened at 8:30 for the highest tier of ‘running club’ members and 10 for the general VQ

Waking up bright and early at 2AM Friday morning it was time for the first event of the weekend the Fall Feast 5K. The theme for this race was the Disney/Pixar film Coco and for my OOTD/Costume I drew inspiration from the character mama Imelda.

And just like that at 2am Saturday morning we rinsed and repeated and were back for our second and final event of the weekend. The theme for this race was Raya and the Last Dragon however this time I didn’t go on theme…exactly. Instead of going the Raya route I figured with her being the newest Disney Princess and the fact that four of five in person Wine and Dine 10K’s I’ve done I dressed as a Disney Princess or Queen I’d go that route and so I drew inspiration from Moana.

Do You Wanna Eat Some Watermelon….

Before I go into the final leg of the Summer Sunrise Watermelon Series Let’s first cool down this summer and talk about the running of my Frozen Virtual. Unlike the past few years I hadn’t planned on doing the Summer Virtual Disney runs at all since I had run three of the four weekends of the 2021-2022 season Live in parks, however when the medals were displayed at the Expo of Springtime Surprise I was swayed to run just one of them.

And now for the main event the final leg of Watermelon….

Honestly I was not mentally prepared for running this event as there have been some personal stuff going on in my life and I didn’t know if I would be in a great headspace…. However to paraphrase Legally Blonde exercise gives you endorphins and endorphins make you happy and as long as I was able to cross the finish I’d be a happy camper.

Still Sweaty for Scholarships... Watermelon Race 2... 2022

It’s July which means things are heating up. It also means it is time for round two of the Summer Sunrise Watermelon Series!!!

With working a more reasonable 26 hour work week and the weather being a cool 79 feels like 85 with no storm threats my goal was to finish somewhere in the ballpark of my 42:46 PR and the 53:00 of June.

An EPIC Expedition that was a true Springtime Surprise!!!

WOW, I can't believe this is my EIGHTH In Person RunDisney Weekend….man time sure does fly however Disney and Consistency rarely mix and while this was an inaugural weekend the pandemic and all its many ripple effects is very much a real thing…well…the weekend sure lived up to it’s name of being a Springtime Surprise…

RUN? I Thought You Said RUM!!!! || Gasparilla Distance Classic 2022:

So like with every run I figure I’ll start with the inevitable pandemic report so that any readers as well as future me can see the state of the world. As of heading into this weekend most places have dropped any masking unless unvaccinated and it’s on an honor system. The CDC recently said that if your county was in a certain zone masking was only needed if you were immunocompromised and while my county as well as the county of this race was still in Orange I definitely was feeling in a good headspace going into things….I’m seeing that tunnel light again!!!

Now that that business is out of the way…I DID IT… in my EIGHTH Year running this event and my SEVENTH doing it down Bayshore Blvd I’ve finally ran the gambit of events and completed MY FIRST HALF MARATHON!!!! Okay so technically I did a virtual for charity back in 2016 but that was run in seven mini increments so it’s officially counted as Half #00 in my Race Log and the time doesn’t count when it comes to listing PRs (as it was six mins or so under this one)

6.2 Magical Miles|| Marathon Weekend 10K Recap

So, a new year calls for a new (for now) format and instead of doing monthly update go back to posting updates after races though right now honestly everything is still very much up in the air. Sure, Marathon Weekend as you’re about to read had no push back and Gaspirilla has posted an email blast saying pretty much that the only changes was they are working on a better way for unvaccinated runners to get their required covid testing for being able to attend the event. My much smaller local race for early march however already made the call to go virtual for a second year in a row…though my guess is that the hospital is run through a hospital and that most of the volunteers needed are out on the front lines.

A LOOOOONG DECEMBER

I feel like it’s been one step forward two steps back this year. It started in the spring…when I got my second Covid 19 vaccination the morning before the Gaspirilla Expo… I had to take my Easter Weekend Training Run Times as my official because I was suffering some minor side-effects but I thought it would all be worth it in the end right? Wrong- than August’s Watermelon run moved bib pick up venues at the last moment and got rid of the post race Watermelon while September’s run had ‘drive up’ bib pick up and October’s run only had bib pick ups the day of the race (though IDK if those were pandemic mitigation or already in the plans) Wine and Dine went better than expected as the crowds and adrenaline made things feel like they were back to normal even if the Character Sightings were at a roped off distance and didn’t take place at the start/finish… I even felt somewhat normal knowing that I would be getting my booster shot in a few weeks…. Now THIS was IT…. THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL just continue to mask up in doors and in large crowds for a few more months and you will be golden… but then the new variant has happened and now all bets are off…
